This was our 4th trip there since 2022 - we decided to go elsewhere last year but missed Cley-Next-The-Sea.The actual house and location are fabulous however the towels and bedding haven’t changed and the kitchen and bathroom towels are particularly grubby looking! It wouldn’t cost much to invest in new linen- the sheets on the children’s bed on the largest room aren’t fitted so they don’t sleep at all well in there - the beds overall are uncomfortable and also need replacing. The new arrangement re the fridge isn’t right and was much better beforehand. The garden furniture is the same as my parents in the 60s and also needs replacing as most chairs are broken.I hope my comments help the owners as I actually love this house hence us returning so many times but enough is enough!

Overall, a lovely place to stay. The wing of magnificent old house with a good-sized secure garden. The house was spacious, clean and very well equipped. We have stayed in quite a lot of holiday cottages and hope the following is of use to the owners of The Old Butler's House where our stay could have been even more enjoyable. While a very basic house folder was available, it was extremely limited and did not provide any local tourist information or recommendations on places to go or eat. Only on the last day did we find there was a tumble dryer and washing machine in the garden shed which was not mentioned in the house folder but just on a card stuck to a mirror simply recording "The code for the shed is xxxx”. The only way of contacting the property owner was a landline number and it took over a day for them to reply before our visit. No email or mobile number were provided should we have had issues when at the house. As mentioned in a previous review, the garden / drive gate does not close properly so you need a piece of rope to keep it secure. There is only one shower which has a very small cubicle, and most people would have real problems in getting a decent wash. Also, for a property advertised to take six people, the fridge freezer is very small. There were some maintenance issues that clearly had not previously been addressed such as one of the bedroom door handles kept falling off and the stair gate was broken. While the following issues may appear niggles, they need to be addressed: there were fleas in the sitting room and my wife suffered a good 30 bites on the first night. Also, while she has no problems normally, there was apparently a dust mite problem in the main bedroom because she had real difficulty breathing, spent a lot of the nights awake coughing and, in the end, had to use an inhaler. I hope this review doesn't seem too critical as it's a lovely house with just a few issues that if addressed would have made our stay even better.
