Hyem is a spacious and well-equipped cottage in a fantastic location, just a short walk from the beach, harbour, and local amenities in Amble. Guests consistently praise its cleanliness, warmth, and suitability for families and dogs. The cottage offers a cosy atmosphere and is ideal for exploring the area. Some minor maintenance issues and comfort concerns, such as worn furnishings and beds, have been noted, but these do not detract from the overall positive experience. Many guests have returned for repeat stays, highlighting the property's appeal and the welcoming nature of the local community.
Most guests found the property clean and tidy, with several describing it as spotlessly clean. However, a few mentioned issues such as cobwebs, stained rugs, and tired decor, which slightly impacted the overall impression.
The location is highly praised, with guests loving the proximity to the beach, harbour, shops, and restaurants. The quiet setting and easy access to local attractions are standout features.
Guests appreciated the spaciousness and warmth of the cottage, but several reviews mention uncomfortable beds and sofas, as well as some noise from floorboards and doors. These issues were noted but did not prevent guests from enjoying their stay.
The cottage is generally well-equipped, with a good kitchen and ample space. Some maintenance issues were reported, such as a leaking toilet, broken furniture, and minor equipment faults. These detracted from the experience for some guests.

Hyem makes an excellent choice for those seeking a coastal retreat, giving easy access to explore the 20 miles of magnificent stretch of Heritage coastline. This region is proud to have been designated as An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Amble is a bustling fishing town and working port, situated just 1-mile south of Warkworth village, on the Coastal Route through Northumberland.
With a good range of small, mostly independent shops, including a great little bakery, excellent butchers, Italian restaurant, award-winning seafood restaurants and one of the best traditional fish and chip shops in the North East on the quayside, it’s a fascinating little fishing port. There’s a local Sunday market held every week on the old quayside, which is lovely to wander around, as well as a little ‘Harbour Village’ with tiny boutique-style independent shops operating out of pods resembling old fishermen’s huts. The views from the quayside are spectacular, of the estuary, impressive Warkworth Castle, Coquet Island and of course the beautiful sea, and the walk along the harbour front to the interesting marina is just lovely, follow it with lunch or dinner in one of the super little eateries on the quayside. There is golf, fishing and water sports nearby. Beach 2½ miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 500 yards.

Communication from Julia before we arrived was great, the house was easy to find & very clean. The high ceilings & extension downstairs make it feel huge yet still warm & cozy. We had to turn the heating down rather than up. The house isn’t a through road which meant it was super quiet at all times. Parking was easy & always available & we enjoyed the lighthearted information booklet. The cove is just a few minutes walk away & a larger beach available in the opposite direction which went on for miles. Pubs, restaurants & shops were a short walk. The Tesco is a decent size & well stocked. we saw a couple of resident seals in the harbour more than once whilst walking to The Old Boathouse which was a great spot for some spring sunshine & the Geordie Banger does a great sausage role. The Wellwood arms does great deals on food as does the Radcliffe Cafe Bar. Walkworth is worth a walk & is just a couple of miles away & Cragside is well worth a visit. Our dog lived his best salty dog life while he was there & we’ve more restaurants to try out so will definitely be back.

The kitchen has a very small radiator that doesn't do the job. And the bathroom has no radiator either. Just a very inadequate hot air blower/heater just above the door. Both kitchen and bathroom are freezing. Apart from that. The rest was warm and comfortable and clean.

We had a fantastic weekend at Hyem. It was a lovely, cosy and inviting cottage with excellent facilities. (All the negative things you may read in other reviews, the front door, toilet etc have obviously been sorted as we had no issues with any of the facilities!) One of the reasons we chose Hyem was the log burner, we imagined having to put it on to keep warm on a cold December night, but the house was warm enough without it! The bedrooms were also inviting and comfortable. We loved the fact that it was just a few minutes walk to the sea front and there were some great places to eat in Amble. The welcome package when we arrived was also a lovely surprise. We didn't really use the outside space but it looked clean, tidy and would be great to sit out in during the warmer months. We will definitely be going back to Hyem!
