Guests say

Hyem is a well-liked cottage in Morpeth, praised for its excellent location near the beach and local amenities. Guests appreciate its spaciousness and the warmth of the house. While some maintenance issues are noted, the property's charm and the area's attractions contribute to a positive holiday experience.

The property is generally described as clean, with several reviews highlighting its tidiness. However, a few guests mentioned minor issues such as cobwebs and a lack of initial supplies, slightly affecting the overall impression.

The location receives high praise for its proximity to the beach, harbour, shops, and local attractions. Guests love the convenience and the beautiful surroundings, contributing to a high score in this category.

Comfort is rated fairly well, with guests finding the property spacious and well-equipped. However, several reviews mention uncomfortable beds and sofas, which detract from the overall comfort level.

Facilities are adequate, with a well-equipped kitchen and warm house. Nonetheless, persistent maintenance issues like a leaking toilet, problematic front door lock, and broken items are concerns that guests feel need addressing.

While guests have mentioned a welcome package, there is not enough consistent information about thoughtful touches or gifts to accurately score this category. It should be noted that such gestures, when they occur, are appreciated but not guaranteed.

It is a welcoming holiday ‘home from home’ in the bustling fishing town of Amble, just 2 minutes’ stroll from the harbour and beach, and offers an enclosed courtyard with garden furniture. Its open plan living space has lots of room in which to relax, and there is a cosy wood burner in the living room, two comfortable sofas to curl up on and Smart TV and large dining table perfect to gather around for food or games. The kitchen and utility room, refurbished in 2020, include oak worktops, modern appliances and a lovely coffee maker to enjoy a morning espresso. The separate utility area, with washing machine, also offers space for pets and outdoor equipment. With three good sized fully furnished bedrooms, the accommodation is perfect for a small group, and a travel cot, highchair and a portable stairgate make the property friendly for small children. Outside you’ll find an enclosed courtyard with table and chairs to enjoy the last of the summer sun and some al fresco dining.

Hyem makes an excellent choice for those seeking a coastal retreat, giving easy access to explore the 20 miles of magnificent stretch of Heritage coastline. This region is proud to have been designated as An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Amble is a bustling fishing town and working port, situated just 1-mile south of Warkworth village, on the Coastal Route through Northumberland.

With a good range of small, mostly independent shops, including a great little bakery, excellent butchers, Italian restaurant, award-winning seafood restaurants and one of the best traditional fish and chip shops in the North East on the quayside, it’s a fascinating little fishing port. There’s a local Sunday market held every week on the old quayside, which is lovely to wander around, as well as a little ‘Harbour Village’ with tiny boutique-style independent shops operating out of pods resembling old fishermen’s huts. The views from the quayside are spectacular, of the estuary, impressive Warkworth Castle, Coquet Island and of course the beautiful sea, and the walk along the harbour front to the interesting marina is just lovely, follow it with lunch or dinner in one of the super little eateries on the quayside. There is golf, fishing and water sports nearby. Beach 2½ miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 500 yards.

We had a fantastic weekend at Hyem. It was a lovely, cosy and inviting cottage with excellent facilities. (All the negative things you may read in other reviews, the front door, toilet etc have obviously been sorted as we had no issues with any of the facilities!) One of the reasons we chose Hyem was the log burner, we imagined having to put it on to keep warm on a cold December night, but the house was warm enough without it! The bedrooms were also inviting and comfortable. We loved the fact that it was just a few minutes walk to the sea front and there were some great places to eat in Amble. The welcome package when we arrived was also a lovely surprise. We didn't really use the outside space but it looked clean, tidy and would be great to sit out in during the warmer months. We will definitely be going back to Hyem!

A great place to stay with our kids. The location is perfect for local attractions as well as travelling to other places along the coast.
