Nearby Cockermouth is only 2.5 miles away and offers an abundance of speciality shops, coffee houses, restaurants, and attractions. Visit Wordsworth House for a spot of Culture, or maybe Jennings Brewery beneath the castle walls, offering tasting tours. Kirkgate Arts provides a cinema and theatre performances. If you love The Lakes, you’re in easy reach of Bassenthwaite Lake with stunning scenery and an abundance of wildlife including red squirrels, buzzards and osprey to the East. Or drive South and you’ll reach Loweswater which connects to Crummock Water and Buttermere, arguably one of the most picturesque areas of Cumbria for breath-taking scenery. Went to Fieldside Farmhouse for a surprise 70th birthday family weekend for my husband. Ages ranged from 70 to 10 years old. The Grandchildren 20, 19, 15 and 10 loved the games room and especially the pool table. The house easily accommodated the 10 of us. John was a fantastic host. The tour around the stables for the youngest Grandchild was very informative and very enjoyable. There is a local Sainsbury’s for everything you forgot to bring! I would highly recommend this property for your holiday to make those family memories!

We really enjoyed our holiday at fieldside farmhouse. Very spacious and clean with everything we needed. The pool table was excellent and lovely views. Easy access to lakes with Buttermere just 30 minutes drive. Good sized bedrooms and bathrooms. Highly recommend and hope to return one day.

We had a great time at the Fieldside Farmhouse! There is everything you need and more here! Every room is massive and there is plenty of space to move around. We loved the pool table and TV and there are plenty of books and games to play too. There is no music player or radio but we logged onto the smart tv in the dining room for music when in the pool room.The kitchen was extremely well equipped and we cooked most nights. Beds were extremely comfortable and the bedding and linen were spot on. We used the heating which was very responsive and also lit the fire every night, which made the lounge room cosy.We had rain most days and getting around The Lakes was really easy. Cockermouth is great with loads of shops, cafes, interesting places to see and things to do. It is only 5 mins drive from the house. We didn't eat in the local pub near the house, but popped in. Can recommend The Bitter End for food and The Bush for a drink in Cockermouth. The Percy House gallery is an interesting shop and JB Banks Ironmongers is worth a visit, with a museum in the back! Wordsworth Cottage and garden is worth a visit too. There's lots of independent shops some steeped in history.We didn't sit outside at the house and agree with another guest that perhaps some protected seating would be a great addition to the garden. It was lovely to see the animals in the fields next to the house and the views were great. Some ideas of walks around the area would be good and some maps of the area. We ventured out each day and had an idea of where to go. All in all, had a great stay and would definitely book again and would recommend to friends and family.
