Although the property was well equipped when we arrived there was no one there to meet us and the door was locked. When I phoned the owner the day before she did not answer and I had to leave a message. When we arrived at the property she still did not answer her phone and so I had to phone Cottages.com. They were also unable to contact her and I was advised to seek alternative accommodation for the night. The local Premier Inn was fully booked and we tried a pub a few miles away. While there the owner of our holiday property phoned me to tell me that the key was in a key safe at the gate to the property and she gave me the code number. There was no mention of this on the Cottages.com paperwork. On the latter there was a phone number for the owner's assistant but this had one digit missing so was unusable. When we finally entered the property 4 hours after we had first arrived we found that the were no safety instructions (fire evacuation, emergency phone nos for doctor etc), no folder about details of the property, no visitors book and no leaflets about attractions to visit. All the windows except for the ones in the kitchen/living room were locked, so the bedroom was stuffy and hot. The only way of escape in case of fire was the front door - exiting via the windows would have involved climbing over domestic appliances, virtually impossibe for elderly people.Although the property was well equipped with modern appliances the sofa was too low and uncomfortable, and the TV screen was too small.

This is the worst cottage we have stayed in over the 40 plus years of using English Country Cottages and Cottages.com. The approach was not well maintained and the steps to the property breaking up. Some worrying electrical items were left inside. There was a sauna we were instructed not to use and an upstais area again not to be used. The cottage was ill equipped inside and smelled strongly of damp and mould. I would have left immediately if we had not arranged to meet our son the next day. There was no instruction books or visitor book or recommedations. We usually find a list of local food shops, restaurants doctors etc. The only instruction book we found was for the microwave.I have never before felt so disappointed and let down by our accommodation.

This cottage is absolutely lovely and Penn is a great location for a weekend away. The place is cozy, has good level of comfort and great garden. It is 5minutes by cab away from Beaconsfield train station and there is a lovely pub down the road. The only isue (which I think its solvable) is that we had troubles checking in because the owner was unresponsive and sent the wrong instructions/late. Luckily Cottages customer service was helpful and was able to let us in. However, we had to wait 2 hours before we were able to find a solution. Moreover, the place could use with a better clean as it is a bit dusty. Overall, lovely cottage with few things to improve. Great service upon cottages to help us.
