Guests say

Throop House Cottage in Bournemouth is praised for its great location, lovely views, and wildlife. Guests enjoyed the quality furnishings, tranquil setting, and cleanliness. Some concerns were raised about maintenance and cleanliness, but overall, guests seem to look forward to returning.

Most guests found the cottage to be clean and comfortable. However, one review mentioned the need for a thorough cleaning, including issues with cobwebs and windows, which suggests room for improvement.

The location is highly appreciated for its lovely views, proximity to walks, and nearby attractions like the New Forest, Christchurch, and Bournemouth. The presence of wildlife added to the charm.

The majority of guests found the cottage very comfortable and peaceful, with a good layout and quality furnishings. One negative comment about a piece of carpet and a screw on the floor suggests a potential hazard that slightly lowers the score.

Facilities were generally well-received, with a fully equipped kitchen and a wood burner. However, some guests noted the absence of certain kitchen utensils and coffee-making facilities, as well as maintenance issues like a leaking tap and blocked shower drainage.

While guests appreciated the selection of teas, there were no specific mentions of gifts or additional thoughtful touches that would warrant a score in this category. Therefore, the score is set to null.

About this property

This stunning detached cottage is located on the edge of the River Stour and next to the historic Throop Mill. Set in the picturesque village of Throop, approximately 4 miles from Bournemouth Town Centre, the home of award-winning sandy beaches and the start of the Dorset Jurassic Coastline. Throop is the perfect spot for you to relax where you will find walks directly from the property into the open countryside, or take the short drive to the historic town of Christchurch, approximately 4 miles. Here you will find the historic priory church, castle ruins, coffee shops, bars, restaurants and shops. There is something for everyone.

Entering the property via electric gates, you are welcomed to a magical spot where you can hear the river flowing at the end of the garden and the birds singing in the trees. Stepping inside the property, you are welcomed into a bright and spacious lounge with a Smart TV, a wood burner for those cold winter evenings, and French doors leading to the terrace. The well-equipped kitchen offers you the space to cook up a lovely evening meal or breakfast before the day ahead of exploring what Dorset has to offer. There is also a separate dining room for all the family to enjoy meals together. Upstairs there are two bedrooms, one with a king-size bed and another with twin single beds, both with built-in wardrobes. The family shower room completes this floor.

Outside, the terrace area has been well designed for all your needs. Enjoy a relaxing morning coffee or a day of sunbathing, with a secluded area for you all to enjoy. Watch the river flow by, and if you are lucky the local wildlife will be around for you to enjoy. The remaining part of the garden is mainly laid to lawn with a shed which can be used to store bikes, fishing equipment, golf clubs, or beach toys. Please note there is direct access to the river and children need to be supervised at all times. The gardener will be in the garden on a Thursday morning this will be after 9 am.

We were very satisfied with our stay at Throop House. We saw pheasant, deer, squirrels and all.tures of lovely birds during our stay. We will highly recommend it to everyone we know.

We were disappointed at the mercenary attitude of Original Cottages who refused to consider bringing our booking forward by one day, because of a changed hospital appointment, without charging us £75. The owners were kept in the dark about this and apologised. Original Cottages should apologise and acknowledge that we did not benefit from the 5 nights we paid for, as we had to return after 4.
