This was our second Christmas stay at Porth Nanven Barn and we are definite fans. The house is pleasantly unpretentious and 'unprecious' and we like that. It has everything we needed and the shops are just a ten-minute walk away in St Just. The walks down the Cot Valley or out through Bosorne to Carn Gloose or over to Cape Cornwall are always a delight, even if the weather closes in. (Tip: treat yourself to the walk over the top, via Letcha Farm, to Nanjulian.) The owners live next door, but are both there and invisible. St Just isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I like its grit and you need grit to make a pearl.

We had a great weekend at this lovely place, arriving to find a choice of tea and Cornish fairings (brought back memories, and as delicious as ever) or a glas of wine, and a warm and welcoming house. The heating was so good, we didnt need to light the wood burner even in December! Everything we needed was there and we just relaxed into the house immediately. Its peaceful and quiet, but in easy walking distance of St Just (Im an active 78 year old), and with the lovely Cot Valley in the other direction. As Im Cornish and know the area we were off to find really lovely places, of which there are loads, and re-explore St Just, which has long been a favourite town of mine. Everything you could want for a really comfortable, relaxed break. Well be back!
