Guests say

West Ridge Bungalow in Seaton offers uplifting views, a spacious garden, and a friendly local community. Guests appreciate the property's cleanliness, the welcoming hosts, and the well-equipped space. While some find the decor dated and suggest upgrades, the location provides a peaceful retreat and is a good base for exploring South Devon/Dorset.

Guests that stayed at this property said

The property is consistently described as very clean, with multiple reviews affirming its cleanliness. One review mentions a musty smell, but this seems to be an isolated comment.

The location is praised for its views and as a peaceful base for exploring the area. However, some guests note it is too far to walk to Seaton and the entrance drive requires careful exiting.

Guests find the property comfortable overall, but several reviews suggest improvements in bedding and seating arrangements. The use of single duvets on a double bed and dated furniture are noted drawbacks.

The property is well-equipped according to some reviews, but others mention outdated facilities, the lack of a washing machine in the property, and limited Wi-Fi coverage. The garden is a highlight, though some guests suggest maintenance improvements.

There is no mention of gifts or special thoughtful touches provided by the hosts in the reviews, so it is not possible to assess this category.

About this property

West Ridge stands in more than 1.5 acres of its own lawns and gardens just a mile or so from the sea at Seaton, set in the midst of the spectacular rural and coastal scenery of East Devon.

From its elevated situation it commands beautiful and extensive views of the Axe Valley and Estuary and the sea itself.

Attached to the owner's main residence, the accommodation comprises a main bedroom (with a Super king-size bed, which can, if preferred, be separated into two single beds); a lounge and a large kitchen/living-room and there is also a shower room with separate toilet.

There is a large garden with a paddock/orchard to the rear. This part of the garden looks to the North over lovely rolling Devon countryside - a particularly attractive and peaceful area. There is an ample supply of garden furniture and level access from the driveway to the entrance of the bungalow.

A variety of shops, pubs and restaurants in this small Devon town are within a few minutes drive. Explore the stunning Axe Estuary and Wetlands, abundant with bird and wildlife, or why not visit the unique Seaton Tramway. The mile long beach is perfect for watersports with sailing, windsurfing and paddle-boarding permanent features in the bay. The picturesque fishing village of Beer, just a five minutes drive, is host to the famous Pecorama and Quarry Caves and self-drive motor boats can be hired from the beach. With the seaside resorts of Lyme Regis and Sidmouth within 15 minutes by car this property is a great base for discovering this recognised Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

Seaton is a seaside town in East Devon on the south coast. It faces onto Lyme Bay, to the west of the mouth of the River Axe with red cliffs to one side and white cliffs on the other. Axmouth and Beer are nearby. A sea wall provides access to the mostly shingle beach stretching for about a mile, and a small harbour. Seaton is on the stretch of Devon coastline, known as the Jurassic Coast, a designated World Heritage Site, and the town offers a good range of shops, friendly cafes, restaurants and pubs.

The lovely Aga shown is not available to cook on Furniture very outdated , uncomfortable couch or single old armchairs to watch tv ( couch does not face tv) not very “romantic” Not a single carpet , all flooring is carpet tiles which is not very comfortable underfoot , especially in the bedroom. 2 mattresses joined together with 2 single duvets does not a double/kingsize bed make , nor does it add to the advertised “romance “ There is no washing machine in the property (Sykes listing says there is) it is in the owners house Towels need replacing , they are hard and rough. “Sky Tv “ is a bit misleading , free to air sky is only channel available . Stunning location with large garden and paddock to use at rear .( Garden not enclosed as gate on drive always open , just an observation ) Could not contact owner to let us in when we arrived as no key there , she was very friendly and helpful when she did arrive. It is worth noting that although the property is dog friendly , Seaton Beach is not , Seaton , Beer , Sidmouth and Lyme Regis all lovely places to visit Perfect location to explore from . We expected better , it was not a bargain price. There seemed to be notices everywhere , telling us not to do this or make sure we do that . If the heater in the bathroom is a potential fire hazard if left on , it should be removed ? This may sound very grumpy but is is not , just hugely disappointed …..

There is a large garden. However the bed was hard and I found it rather uncomfortable. The Wi-Fi only worked in the kitchen so a booster would be helpful. The furniture was adequate but very dated. If it was my place I would provide a few tea and coffee bags and a small carton of milk

but appropriate to the age of the building. Great garden and paddock for our dog. Too far out from Seaton to walk but this wasn’t an issue. Entrance drive rather concealed so leaving in the car needed care. Overall good and would recommend.
