About this property

The Studio of the late Abstract Expressionist painter Robert Sadler (1909-2001) is now a lovely light studio bedroom/living space on the first-floor, filled with memorabilia of a bygone time, and artwork painted by Robert Sadler himself. On the ground floor is the open plan kitchen/breakfast room to one side, and the double and single to the other, with sliding door giving privacy if you prefer, as well as double doors to the lower deck. Between the two is the bathroom with beautiful roll-top bath.

Extensive outdoor space is a huge asset here – parking for four cars; a large fully enclosed garden; sunny south facing deck accessed from three sets of double doors and furnished for relaxing or eating in the sea air; as well as a wide first-floor balcony with sea view running along the length of the first floor.

Ground floor

Step off the deck into the entrance hall of The Studio with the kitchen/breakfast room and stairs off to your left, bathroom ahead of you and doors to the double and single to your right, with sliding doors between the two so you can choose privacy or open plan. Oak flooring runs throughout and you can make the most of indoor/outdoor living with double doors from the breakfast area and single room onto the lower deck.

Kitchen/Breakfast Room

There’s a country style to this charming room with kitchen divided from the breakfast area by a butcher’s block, providing additional workspace and storage.

Built-in units with marble work surfaces run along two walls with built in double oven, gas hob with extractor, integrated microwave and a dishwasher. A large Smeg fridge with three drawer freezer sits by the stairs, together with a washer/dryer.

A circular table with six chairs sits by double doors to the patio, with dressers on either side, loaded with crockery, cutlery, games etc. for you to use.

Double Bedroom

This pretty bedroom has a double bed with bedside drawers and ample storage in a built in wardrobe. Sliding doors with a cabin hook give you the option of seclusion from the single.

Single Bedroom

A lovely bright room with double doors to the patio, as well as doors to the hallway and double room. There’s a sturdy single bed with pullout which can be made up for you on request, chest of drawers and chair.

Wooden stairs rise to the first floor, exclusively the studio which has three sets of double doors to the balcony and a door to the external spiral staircase.

Studio/Bedroom

Robert Sadler’s original artist’s studio is now a lovely light studio bedroom, filled with memorabilia of a bygone time and artwork painted by Robert Sadler.

Three deep sofas sit around a coffee table, and bookcases are heaving with reference and reading books for you to browse, as well as an eclectic mix of furniture including a handsome armoire with more games to play. The double bed sits between two sets of bedside drawers with a wardrobe and desk/dressing table close by; a concertina screen gives you privacy.

Outdoor space is a key feature at The Studio; spacious, secluded and enclosed, making it great for both kids and dogs! The double gates on Fawcett Road open into the drive, giving space for up to four cars. A gravel path takes you round to the big south facing patio with front door, and double doors to both the single bedroom and kitchen. The garden’s mainly laid to lawn with well-established shrubs and a table with six chairs so you can enjoy the sea air. Running along the front of the studio on the first floor is a wide balcony with sea view and yet another table and chairs for meals, plus a lounger and two deckchairs just waiting for you to relax with a good book!

Games Room

Located in a separate summer house, a great addition for kids of any age, this garden style room has a billiards table, sofa, chairs, playpen and BBQ.

The popular, vibrant seaside town of Aldeburgh is famous for its culture, traditional feel and one of the best fish and chip shops in the country! Aldeburgh and Snape Maltings are home to one of the world’s greatest music festivals and has been named as one of the top 50 places to live in Britain. Crag Path runs along the seafront dividing the beautiful pebbly beach from the unspoilt pastel-coloured seafront properties and the town. The beach is a popular place for groups and couples to enjoy the wonderful fish and chips throughout the summer months. The town is steeped in history and has become a wonderful town for shopping with a good mixture of independent and chain stores to enjoy. The town also offers a good selection of pubs and restaurants or why not buy some freshly caught fish from the huts on the seafront and cook up your own feast at home. For those wishing for a more action-packed holiday there is excellent walking, cycling, sailing and golf at Aldeburgh. Growing in popularity you will want to return to Aldeburgh again and again!

The parking was a real bonus.

The house is in an excellent location. The garden was perfect for our two dogs, and for dining outside in the warm weather. The adjoining twin room worked perfectly for our children. The kitchen had everything we needed. Off-road parking was a rare treat and much appreciated. Very close to the bakery on the high street - perfect for early morning pastry runs! The guidebook has everything we needed to know about the house, the local area and the artist, Robert Sadler - we very much enjoyed the many paintings throughout the home of his. I would just emphasise that the double bed upstairs is within the lounge area - there is no clear separation other than a temporary screen if set up - if staying with a group of friends, this might be something to consider, but for our family, this worked fine.

We love Aldeburgh and the property itself and so do our two large dogs. It is a ‘home from home’.
