The Wye Valley AONB is on the doorstep, while the Brecon Beacons National Park, the Forest of Dean and the Cotswolds are all within easy reach.

River Wye Lodge is a beautiful house in a stunning location facing the River Wye in the Forest of Dean. Big group self-catering properties like this, which sleeps up to 26 people in 12 bedrooms, rarely come along, making this even more of a treasure. It has everything you can think of from lots of parking to a kids' adventure playground, canoe launch and a covered hot tub all within walking distance of the friendly Forge Hammer pub in Lydbrook. The Wye Valley aonb is beautiful in every season, making it an excellent year-round destination for a holiday with family and friends. There are endless miles of trails to walk or cycle, rivers for canoeing and kayaking, mountains to climb and beautiful views in every direction. While we would understand if you couldn't drag yourself away from the fantastic amenities at the house, those who do enjoy local attractions like the Wye Valley Butterfly Zoo, Go Ape, Clearwell Caves, the Dean Forest Railway and Puzzlewood. Being close to the Welsh Border means there are lots of impressive castles, including the one at Chepstow.

Not only is the Wye Valley on the doorstep but the beautiful Brecon Beacons National Park is within easy reach as are the Malvern Hills and the Cotswolds, both of which are designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Whatever your age and interest, you will find the perfect activity here.

Days out can include visits to charming market towns such as Ross-on-Wye, Abergavenny or Monmouth. Hereford and Gloucester are within a short drive, while Cardiff, Bristol and Stratford are near enough for a day trip. Whether you're into food, mountain biking, history, culture or you want to escape the rat race and enjoy a few days of relaxation with family and friends, River Wye Lodge is perfect.

Accommodation Comprises:

Accommodation at River Wye Lodge is over three levels.

Ground Floor:

  • Entry is into a small hallway which opens into a grand hall that runs from the front to the rear of the house.
  • Half of the ground floor is allocated to the enormous lounge which has lots of comfortable seating, a TV with Sky channels, a log burner and even a bar. Why go to the pub to watch a big game when you can settle back and enjoy it right here?
  • Second, smaller living room, the Snug, where guests can escape to watch TV, read or chat quietly away from the main group.
  • Fitted kitchen with three ovens, 12 hob burners, three sinks, four fridge/freezers and everything else necessary to cater for big groups of hungry people. A servery/utility room next to the kitchen provides more space for storing food as well as laundry facilities.
  • Long dining room with table and enough seating for everyone to sit and enjoy a meal together. The age of the house is evident in this room, with its solid oak beams, decorative fireplace and substantial stone pillars.
  • On the other side of the house to the living areas is a quiet twin bedroom with two single beds and an ensuite wet room. This bedroom is wheelchair accessible with additional safety features that make it ideal for guests with limited mobility.
  • Two cloakrooms, each with a WC and a handbasin.
  • First Floor:

    The majority of the bedrooms are on the first floor. All beds are made up for the arrival of guests with quality linen and hypoallergenic bedding.

  • Two triple/family rooms, each with a double and a single bed and an ensuite shower room.
  • Four double rooms, each with an ensuite shower room or bathroom.
  • Three twin rooms, two with ensuite shower rooms and one with an ensuite WC and handbasin.
  • Family bathroom with a bath, walk-in shower, WC and a handbasin.
  • Second Floor:

  • Double bedroom and a twin bedroom with a shared family bathroom.
  • Outside: Wye Valley Lodge has extensive grounds that include a paved patio next to the house with picnic bench seating, a covered hot tub, a children's play area and lawn leading down to the river. There is lots of off-street parking and secure storage for bikes, canoes and other equipment.

    Additional Information: All utilities, WiFi, fuel for the wood burner, bed linen and towels are provided. Well behaved dogs are welcome through prior arrangement. Short breaks are possible all year round depending on availability. Smoking is not permitted anywhere inside the property.
