Porter's Lodge is a beautifully restored historic property, praised for its unique character, period features, and welcoming atmosphere. Guests consistently highlight the spotless presentation, well-equipped kitchen, and thoughtful touches such as fresh flowers and cake on arrival. The host receives frequent commendation for warmth and helpfulness. While the steep stairs and occasional noise from the nearby pub are noted, most guests found these did not detract from an otherwise memorable and comfortable stay. The property offers a cosy retreat with easy access to local walks and attractions, making it a popular choice for history lovers and dog owners alike.
Cleanliness is frequently praised, with many guests describing the property as spotless, beautifully cleaned, and well maintained. Only one review reported issues with dust and cobwebs, but this was an outlier among overwhelmingly positive feedback.
The location is appreciated for its historical setting and proximity to walks, the Abbey, and local attractions. Some guests mention the village is less picturesque and note occasional noise from the pub opposite, but most found the area convenient and enjoyable.
Guests found the property cosy, warm, and comfortable, with special mention of the king-size bed, modern bathroom, and wood burner. The main drawback is the steep stairs, which may be challenging for those with mobility issues.
Facilities are highly rated, with guests noting the well-equipped kitchen, modern bathroom, and amenities such as off-road parking and a log burner. A few minor issues with appliances and internet were mentioned but did not significantly impact overall satisfaction.
Many guests appreciated thoughtful touches such as fresh flowers, cake, and milk on arrival, as well as the host's warm welcome. Please note that while these gestures are frequently mentioned, they cannot be guaranteed for every stay.

The porters lodge was warm and spotless, the bed comfy, the pint of milk and cake very welcome. If you want to stay somewhere with history or you are interested in medieval architecture this is a great place to stay. The stairs are as steep as the listing states, and quite narrow, so probably not an ideal place for anyone with mobility issues, and the club opposite was a little noisy on Friday night but as we don't go to bed till late it didn't bother us. The rest of the 4 days we spent there were very peaceful.10/10
