About this property

A picturesque, 200-year old, stone-built, end-terrace cottage, overlooking the village green in the centre of the pretty Dales village of Bainbridge. Renovated to a very high standard, this charming property retains much original character, including a wealth of exposed beams and a stunning fireplace housing an inviting woodburner. Enjoy a relaxing afternoon in the pretty patio garden, or follow the many peaceful walks through the village and absorb the striking views. The village pub, just three minutes' walk away, offers fine ales and tasty food. This is a great location for walkers, from the castles at Bolton and Middleham, to Hardraw Force, England's highest single drop waterfall. It is a fantastic base from which to explore all that Wensleydale and Swaledale have to offer. A superb Yorkshire cottage, ideal for exploring the area, or as a romantic getaway.

Situated in truly beautiful countryside, the picturesque Wensleydale village of Bainbridge is just two miles from Askrigg - known to millions as ‘Darrowby' in James Herriot's "All Creatures Great and Small". Bainbridge is also just four miles from the market town of Hawes, home of the famous Wensleydale cheese, and boasts an extensive village green which comes with its own set of stocks. This excellent holiday location is ideal for walkers, and offers a great base from which to explore the popular areas of Wensleydale and Swaledale, taking in the Aysgarth Falls, Semerwater, and castles at both Bolton and Middleham. The highest single drop waterfall in England, Hardraw Force, is close by too and stands at an impressive 99ft!

The owners have obviously gone to a lot of effort to make the accommodation feel welcoming and homely. We enjoyed our week enormously and definitely want to return. Fantastic walks from the property and in nearby areas meant that we didn't need to do much driving to enjoy many picturesque walks. There are a lot of waterfalls in he area which were worth walking to. Hardraw force and the West Burton waterfall are both lovely.Olives cafe, close to the cottage does wonderful breakfasts. We enjoyed evening meals at The Green Dragon in Hardraw and The White Hart in Hawes. Even the weather was perfect.

It is tastefully decorated and all the furnishings and equipment are of the highest quality. There was everything we needed. The weather during our stay was rather indifferent, so it was lovely to return at the end of the day to the warmth and comfort of Bill's Place. A real haven of peace. Bainbridge is a very attractive village with an excellent butcher. The Wensleydale Bakery sells fresh bread, savouries and cakes and light meals. The village shop in Sycamore Hall sells everyday essentials, and nearby Askrig, has several restaurants and pubs.

The cottage was very comfortable especially the beds it was like home from home. It had everything you needed. We would definately return to Bills Place and recommend it to family and friends.
