  Beninborough Cottage is in a quiet corner of a delightful village, Middleham, which is nonetheless well served with pubs, restaurants and an excellent all purpose shop/newsagent and off-licence.

  For a party of six with ages ranging from 9 to 77, it proved to be an excellent base for a holiday; easy access to the Lightwater Valley and the Forbidden Corner, pleasant and easy pottering opportunities for the older members, not to mention Middleham Castle [childhood home of Richard III] in the village itself, Jervaulx Abbey a few miles away, and excellent shopping in Leyburn. The cottage itself has a stunning view across the dales and is far enough from the roads to be utterly peaceful. Watch out, too, for the grey squirrels in the garden. The cottage is a splendid facility; four large and comfortable bedrooms, all ensuite, all with tv sets, a very large lounge with a marvellous picture window, a dining area with the same view, and another lounge area in the very well-equipped kitchen. The induction hob on the oven was a novelty, but the instructions got us past that potential difficulty; and there is a laundry room with a freezer on the ground floor. It is simply not possible to fault the facilities on any score. More than that, the proprietors, Hilary and Roger, were very helpful and kind. Hilary waited in for us for over an hour when we got lost on the way there; we needed a blender for use in the kitchen and they loaned us one, and they were understanding about an accidental breakage as well. We take cottage holidays because they suit our circumstances, in particular the widely differing needs of a very extended family. Beninborough Cottage met those needs perfectly and we had a wonderful time. Christopher [aged 9} says: "I thought it was a lovely cottage, and I would love to stay there for years."

  Heanor House is fantastic we were very lucky to find this break available.

  The house is so characterful and large. We travelled as a family of 6 plus our daughters friend and it was so comfortable. The property is extremely clean everywhere and it has everything you could possibly imagine or require. The kitchen is very well stocked, the dining room has an array of games and books with a large table for everyone. The upstairs sitting room has a fantastic view. The rear yard is perfect for sitting out and there is an apple tree with lights in. Everyone in our party loved the deep freestanding bath. The owner of the property had left a personal note which we loved. There is nothing I could possible suggest to improve this accommodation. It takes a few minutes to walk into the village centre with places to eat and takeaways. We stayed here to be close to the Forbidden Corner which we highly recommend as it is a short drive. We also recommend the shawl walk - you access this near the town hall and there is an excellent park for kids and football field. Thank you Heanor House.

  This was a fabulous house in a great location.

  The owners had thought of everything, extremely well equipped and high quality. We loved the view from the 1st floor lounge and great to have a second lounge area off the kitchen. Lots of space and beds very comfortable. Having your own parking space is a bonus. The village has pubs, supermarkets, restaurants (sandpiper is michelin) and nice independent shops with a great walk along the shawl, we also walked to Harmby Waterfall. The weather was not so kind as we would have done the train journey but Leyburn is a great base to explore Barnard Castle, Richmond, Hawes and the Tan Hill Inn which I strongly advise having the food. We would highly recommend this property in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.

  We absolutely loved Heanor House.

  It is a beautifully presented house and spacious house with everything you could need for a comfortable and relaxing stay. The kitchen is large and well equipped, the sitting rooms are light and airy and the beautiful dining room has wonderful views. Beds were comfortable with lovely bedding. The bathrooms were clean and modern with lots of luxurious towels. It was the perfect place for a family weekend get-together. Leyburn is a pretty market town with lots of good independent shops and places to eat and drink. The independent supermarket is excellent - save your shopping til you arrive! We would highly recommend staying here.

  I really liked the search facility at Sykes which allowed me to use a filter for pet free holiday homes; a lot of companies only allow you to filter for pet friendly homes.

  Communication with Sykes was also good. The property we stayed in was excellent. It is, as described, an outstanding barn conversion on the edge of the pretty village of Middleham, with beautiful views of the Yorkshire Dales. The location was perfect for walking in the dales. The village has a good village store and good pubs, as well as the attractive castle ruins. The house was clean, modern and spacious and the owners, next door, were friendly and welcoming. Our three teenage children loved having their own double beds and en-suite bathrooms and were pleased we had wifi. We highly recommend the holiday house.
