Guests say

Guests generally appreciate the holiday rental, praising its quiet location ideal for walking, well-equipped kitchen, and comfortable bedrooms. The village's charm and the property's spaciousness are highlighted, with the owner's cheerfulness and thoughtfulness, such as leaving wine and biscuits, being well-received. Some guests noted minor issues with maintenance and cleanliness but still enjoyed their stay.

While many guests found the property comfortable and welcoming, there were several mentions of cobwebs, dead flies, and a need for attention to detail in cleaning. However, these did not significantly detract from the overall experience.

The property's location is highly praised for its tranquillity, beautiful village setting, and proximity to good walks and local amenities. It serves as an excellent base for exploring the moors and the Yorkshire coast.

Guests found the property to be cosy, with comfortable beds and a spacious living area. Some guests mentioned issues with bed sizes and the steepness of stairs, but overall the property is considered a comfortable stay.

The property is well-equipped with modern appliances and facilities for large groups. However, some guests reported maintenance issues such as a difficult door lock, a freezer needing defrosting, and a cut from a washing machine seal. The TV also seemed to require clearer instructions.

The owner's thoughtfulness is evident in gestures like leaving champagne and shortbread for guests, which were appreciated. It should be noted that such gifts, while a delightful touch, may not be guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

A fabulous, unique conversion of a Victorian chapel, in the pretty village of Rosedale Abbey, in the heart of the North York Moors National Park. Occupying the front section of the building, this alternative cottage has been lovingly renovated, combining character features with modern amenities, with tall arched windows, exposed timbers, stripped pine doors and a cast iron and marble fireplace. A beautiful spacious kitchen with exposed stonework and shutters provides a very sociable cooking and dining area, whilst the charming sitting room boasts a cosy open fire, ideal for cooler evenings. With sweeping views towards Chimney Bank, this cottage is set amidst breathtaking scenery, yet within easy reach of the bustling market towns of Kirkbymoorside, Pickering and Helmsley. Rosedale Abbey provides a village shop, tea room and two village inns and is an ideal base for exploring the stunning heather clad moors. For golf enthusiasts, a number of excellent courses are in the vicinity, whilst an easy drive brings you to the popular seaside resorts of Whitby and Scarborough. A superb cottage, all year round.

Perfectly positioned for touring both the Moors and the Coast, the picturesque village of Rosedale Abbey is situated in the heart of the North York Moors National Park. Located in Rosedale, a beautiful valley of sweeping hillsides and breathtaking views, this lovely little settlement is surrounded by wonderful moorland countryside and offers walks in every direction. The village is home to the remains of a 12th Century Cistercian Priory - a stone pillar, staircase and sundial are all that remain, which gave the town its unusual name. The village is now largely made up of stone-built cottages clustered around the village green. Packed with local amenities such as shops, tearooms, an art gallery, a glass studio and three old country pubs, there is plenty to do without venturing to nearby Hutton-le-Hole, Ryedale and Kirkbymoorside.

This time we were having a very special vow renewals service at the local church. The cottage had everything we needed and plenty of room for manicures and beauty treatments, courtesy of the church warden's daughter. The church is beautiful and so peaceful - please sign their visitors book to try to save it. Let's keep it there for another 200 years. We couldn't have had anywhere better to stay. Plenty of room for everyone and the two bathrooms made getting ready easy, which was pretty impressive with seven adults. The rooms are lovely and it's so restful. I love the room where you can hear the stream running by. Just imagine the equivalent of two and half weddings going from the same location and you'll understand why we keep coming back to the chapel. Everyone was comfortably seated for the take away 'Desperate Dan' steak pie from The Coach and Horses pub (wonderful pub, check it out). We even sent the boys out for breakfast at Graze on the Green (delicious food and caakes, very friendly), so we could get ready in peace. Large fridge and separate freezer were great, no problem with being able to stock up for days ahead. A week isn't long enough. Plenty of local places to visit and you're near to Whitby, Helmsley and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (check out dining services on the steam trains, or the steam train driving experience if you're so inclined). The chapel owner uses it for his own holidays, so you know it's good. He's so helpful and friendly, thank you Mark. We'll be back.
