Guests have praised the holiday rental for its comfortable furnishings, well-equipped nature, and excellent location. The property's history and attention to detail have been appreciated, and many express a desire to return. However, there are concerns regarding cleanliness and maintenance that have slightly marred the overall experience.
Several reviews commend the property's comfort and equipment but are critical of the cleanliness. Issues such as dust, old food, and unclean bathrooms have been noted, suggesting that cleaning is not thorough.
The location is consistently praised for being excellent, with its proximity to local amenities and the seaside town of Filey highlighted as a positive feature.
The property is generally found to be comfortable and spacious, with a homely feeling. However, some guests found the beds hard and the pillows flat, which affects the comfort score.
Facilities are well-regarded, with the property being well-equipped for self-catering and nicely furnished. Maintenance issues such as a problematic kitchen tap and sharp cupboard knobs have been mentioned, indicating room for improvement.
The welcome pack was well-received, showing thoughtfulness from the hosts. However, as not all reviews mention gifts, and to ensure expectations are managed, it should be noted that such gestures, while appreciated, are not guaranteed.

It's the perfect place to go walking or wildlife watching at any time of year in Filey, an old-fashioned English seaside village with a warm and welcoming environment. On the Yorkshire coast, it's a true find. Located on the north-east coast of England, Filey is a fishing town that has long been known as a popular tourist destination, thanks to its proximity to Filey Bay, a long stretch of beach, and Filey Brigg with its shallow rockpools to the north. It is a low headland that shields Filey Bay from the elements all year round, making it an excellent location for birdwatching and seawatching.

We travelled with our elderly parents & younger child, we were concerned that the locks on the bathrooms were not safety locks, which means you cannot gain access from the outside should anything happen, also, there is no holder for shower gels etc, you have to use the floor of the shower (our parents are in their 80âs, but we also found this tricky). The kitchen cupboard knobs have a metal decorative finish, unfortunately one kept bending out of shape and is sharp, if itâs possible to remove this Iâd recommend you do. The last thing is the kitchen tap hose, unfortunately there seems to be a piece missing from its holder, which means it doesnât stay in place and shoots off all if the time, it just needs a replacement. There are so many positives about the property - location, cleanliness, good use of space, and the history story & pictures are a lovely read. Thank you for sharing your wonderful property with us.

It was large and spacious, lots of room for the 5 of us. It's well equipped, and the owners have obviously put quite a lot of hard work into making the place a nice and welcoming base from which to explore Filey and it's surrounding area. However... What let it down? Cleanliness. Whoever is cleaning the property was obviously rushing through and simply cleaning easily seen areas so that first impressions are positive. Look a little deeper though and that changes. I really don't want to spend the first hour of my holiday cleaning and bleaching the toilets. Lifting the lid to find 'dirt' marks and hairs meant i wasn't going to let my family use the bathrooms until they were cleaned to a good standard. It just went downhill from there, with the fridge having crumbs and marks in (all easily cleaned off by us), one of the freezer drawers was full of unwrapped sausages and burgers obviously left from a previous group, and an opened bag of ice, all of which we had to throw out ourselves along with cleaning the drawers so we could use it for our own food. The kitchen hadn't been properly wiped down, the microwave, oven and bin obviously just given a quick wipe over and there were crumbs at the back of the kitchen-sides and under the glass chopping boards/around the sink. In the living room we only had to sit on one sofa to be given a perfect view under the opposite sofa of thick dust and crumbs. Non of the above was 'searched out' by us, just easily viewed areas that should be obvious to someone cleaning a place. The bannister was wiped but sticky. I didn't dare move any furniture, beds, etc as I dread to think what it would have been like underneath things. That said, my husband told me on the way home at the end of our week, that he checked all rooms to make sure we hadn't left anything and found a soiled thong behind the bed my son had been using. I guess that will still be there as I very much doubt the cleaners ever look so it could have been there months! On our last day, while loading the car, my husband was approached by someone we assume was one of the cleaners, and asked if he was staying at No.1 and could we strip the beds and bring all the washing downstairs for them as they 'can't park for long so it saves us time' - I suppose that explains the lack of proper cleaning... Unfortunately in addition to this the beds were very hard, like sleeping on a board, with the pillows being very cheap and flat so giving very little comfort. I appreciate bedding is a very personal preference, but a little comfort on holiday would have been nice. Such a shame as it's obvious the owners really care about the place. We love Filey and have been coming for a long time. Sadly we won't be back here.

Very spacious. Well stocked for self catering. Lovely decor. Parking bay useful. Showers good. Occasional noise from pub nearby but expected in town location. Filey was very nice with plenty of food options.
