Guests say

Waterloo Cottage Annexe receives glowing praise for its idyllic riverside setting, abundant wildlife, and easy access to Whitby and local walks. Guests consistently highlight the cottage’s cleanliness, comfort, and well-equipped kitchen, with many returning year after year. The garden and conservatory are favourite spots for relaxing and wildlife watching. Occasional minor issues, such as heating controls, TV volume, or WiFi, are mentioned but do not detract from the overwhelmingly positive experience. The property is especially popular with dog owners and those seeking a peaceful retreat.

Cleanliness is frequently praised, with multiple guests describing the cottage as spotlessly clean and well maintained. Only rare, minor comments (e.g., cooker knob markings) are noted, but these do not affect the overall impression.

The location is universally loved, with guests highlighting the beautiful riverside setting, wildlife, and proximity to Whitby, local walks, and public transport. The peaceful environment and scenic views are standout features.

Guests find the cottage very comfortable, mentioning cosy furnishings, a good bed, and a warm atmosphere. Some note the bed is a double rather than king size, and that the space is best suited to two people, but overall comfort is highly rated.

The cottage is described as well equipped, with a good kitchen, shower, and thoughtful extras like books and binoculars. Minor issues such as TV volume, WiFi, and heating controls are occasionally mentioned, but maintenance is responsive and facilities are generally excellent.

Several guests mention welcome packs, wine, biscuits, and helpful information, though a few note these are not always provided. While thoughtful touches are appreciated, please note that such gifts are not guaranteed.

About this property

An attractive, single-storey property, adjoining the owners' holiday home, situated on the banks of the River Esk in Ruswarp village. Traditionally furnished and decorated, this Ruswarp cottage provides desirable accommodation for couples wishing to stay in a tranquil riverside setting, but within easy reach of the lively seaside town of Whitby. The spacious sitting room takes in lovely views over the river and offers a cosy woodburner for cooler evenings, whilst the small kitchen opens onto a porch/conservatory with additional seating overlooking the garden. Outside this Ruswarp cottage, a lawned garden runs alongside the river banks, a delightful place to sit, relax and watch the abundance of wildlife - including seals that are regularly seen swimming upstream.

This Ruswarp cottage has the added benefit of river access, so guests are able to bring canoes and kayaks. Ruswarp village has excellent facilities, including a renowned butcher's, a local inn serving real ales and food and a village shop. Steam trains regularly pass by in the summer months and a public footpath offers a pleasant walk into Whitby, with its famous abbey, good beaches and historic harbour. Why not climb the 199 steps up to St. Mary's church and take an invigorating cliff top walk, or explore the quaint, narrow streets and cobbled market place? With the spectacular scenery of the North York Moors close by and the dramatic coastline to discover, this Ruswarp cottage provides an ideal base.

Just two miles inland from the seaside resort of Whitby and the Yorkshire Coast is the quiet little North York Moors village of Ruswarp. As well as a nine-hole golf course, this quaint little place also enjoys the use of a village pub and shop as well as both sea and river fishing facilities. The river which runs through town provides excellent opportunities for a boat ride, or just a few minutes away is the local miniature steam railway. With so much to do in the area, this is an excellent base for those looking to enjoy the Yorkshire Coast.

Its just too popular! If looking for a negative I would not be comfortable with 4 people but that does not bother us with just 2 and a small dog.
