In the beautiful village of Commondale in the North York Moors National Park you have the characterful Old Schoolhouse, which once homed the village schoolteacher.. All on the

This distinctive red brick building has been lovingly converted into four holiday apartments, ideally located for those looking to discover the surrounding countryside. The Farndale Apartment is on the first floor and is ideal for families or friends looking for an escape to the country. Access to the apartment is via the communal hallway and up the stairs; the layout of the apartment is all on one level.
At the front of the apartment you have the open plan living area, with a dining table in the window as well as comfortable seating in front of the electric fire. The kitchen is well equipped, with everything required to create lovely meals to enjoy together. There is a double bedroom as well as a twin bedroom, and a shower room with a large walk in power shower. At the front of the Old Schoolhouse there is a small communal enclosed garden with a bench, where you can enjoy a morning cup of tea whilst soaking up the views over the surrounding moorland. The owners live next door in the neighbouring converted school, and the playground is now the parking bays.
Commondale is a picturesque village, typical in the North York Moors National Park. The heart of the village has a friendly local pub, and is only yards away, so you can enjoy a tipple or two in the evening in good company before the short walk home. The Esk Valley train which travels between Middlesbrough and Whitby stops at Commondale station which is just 15-minute walk from The Old Schoolhouse. Although the service is limited, this is an excellent way to travel to Whitby, or to Grosmont to pick up the North York Moors Railway.
This is a great choice of destination for walkers, as there is a vast array of walking trails nearby, and you are less than a 30-minute drive away from the coast, where you have Staithes, Whitby, Runswick Bay, Saltburn and Robin Hood’s Bay, all ideal for a memorable day out. Your dog is sure to have the adventure of a lifetime exploring the coast and country, plus many pubs and cafés are dog friendly in this area.

Great second floor apartment you can see across the valley on the way in from Thirsk. Comfortable and easy to relax in. Location is great as a 1 minute drive up the hill allows you to look over the entire bay area.Ideal for Guisborough to Whitby to Great Ayton or massive shopping centres 30 mins away. When the sheep are on the moors you feel right in the middle of the farming landscape. Tom and Jackie are really nice and nothing is too much trouble.Mobile signal in Commondale unavailable but fast internet in the property allows for WiFi calling. Really good internet for such a rural location.

We had a fabulous stay in commondale! Cannot fault the apartment at all! The only thing missing was maybe a small bin in the bathroom, but other than that it was perfect! Nice and warm, extra blankets, iron and ironing board, plenty of utensils and kitchen equipment. The beds were super comfortable too! Literally home from home. And all instructions were clear and easy to understand in the folders left for our perusal! And perfectly placed in Beautiful picturesque surroundings in a very peaceful village! Perfect for escaping to. Local shops are a short drive away. But we picked bits and pieces up while we were out on day trips. Welcomed with a bottle of wine, coffee, milk and tea. So even if we had not brought bits with us, we could have a cuppa on arrival! Laundry facilities which came in handy as we had the grandchildren with us. The local pub does not do food. But is very good prices and quaint. A real step back in time! If you are looking for tranquility and a perfect base to explore Whitby and surrounding areas. Then you cannot go wrong with this apartment in Commondale. We will definitely be back!
