About this property

Nestled in the quaint village of Castleton, North Yorkshire discover this lovely two-bedroom abode, which was built in the 1850’s, Rose Cottage. Benefitting from lovely open-plan living spaces, close access to the local amenities and set in amongst the stunning surroundings of the North York Moors National Park, Rose Cottage welcomes four guests to enjoy the ultimate retreat to the Dales. Upon entering your new home-from-home, kick back and unwind on the plush corner sofa after a long day and allow the designated chef of the group to become acquainted with a well-stocked kitchen, hosting all the necessities required to ease your self-catered stay. Settle down at the dining table to devour a feast or throw open the patio doors to delight in the enclosed garden space and enjoy an afternoon tipple or two. When the evening draws to a close, retreat to the first floor to treat yourself to an indulgent soak or warm shower, before completing your evening routine and heading to either a neatly-presented double or twin bedroom to rest your head. In the morning, kickstart your itinerary in the village of Castleton where you’ll find all your local conveniences including a shop for stocking up on the essentials and a pub, perfect for treating your loved ones to some hearty grub on the days you don’t feel like cooking! Further afield, venture to the lovely seaside location of Saltburn-by-the-Sea, home to Saltburn Beach, Saltburn Valley Gardens, Saltburn-by-the-Sea Golf Club and Saltburn Beach Cliffs, boasting magnificent views of the far-reaching coastline. From your doorstep, you can also uncover the delights of the North York Moors National Park, such as Westworth Reservoir, Mulgrave Castle and Mallyan Spout Waterfall, or travel by car to the picturesque village of Whitby where you’ll find Whitby Abbey, Whitby Museum, Whitby Beach and the infamous 199 steps. However you choose to spend your days here in North Yorkshire, do it from the memorable base of Rose Cottage.

Inside the North York Moors National Park, in the stunning Esk Valley, is where the charming village of Castleton is located. This vibrant community, which is surrounded by beautiful landscape, has excellent services like two pubs that both serve delicious meals, a convenience shop, deli, and tea rooms. There is a train station that connects with the steam line to the charming market town of Pickering and serves the Esk Valley and Whitby. The nearby Botton community of the Camphill Village Trust has shops providing locally produced food, crafts, and literature in addition to craft programmes. The place was spotless,in a good location and the owner was very quick to respond when I had to contact regarding one small issue. Would definitely recommend. The welcome basket was a nice touch as well.

The cottage was clean and comfortable and well equipped plus there was a little 'welcome pack' waiting for us on arrival. The property is beautifully situated, cosy and homely. Street parking near the cottage is easy the views and nearby walks were lovely.

As an interior designer there were a few tweaks that I would suggest to make my survey a 5 out of five. I did leave a Bath mat as the bath was lethally slippy (one of our party was partially disabled) the paintwork needed to be cleaned, I think it needs gloss paint. The kitchen needs a colander. The information provided was unclear as to what to do with the rubbish as there didn’t seem to be a dustbin! All in all we enjoyed our visit and would recommend it to anyone who hasn’t got a disability if any kind.
