The Anchorage is a charming, peaceful cottage with outstanding sea views and a tranquil rural setting, perfect for those seeking relaxation and scenic walks. Guests consistently praise its cleanliness, cosy atmosphere, and well-equipped kitchen. The location is ideal for exploring the North Yorkshire coast, though a car is essential due to its remote position. While some minor maintenance issues and dated furnishings are noted, these do not detract from the overall enjoyment. The cottage is especially appreciated for its character, comfort, and the opportunity to unwind in beautiful surroundings.
Most guests found the cottage very clean, fresh, and well-presented, particularly upstairs. However, a few mentioned that some upholstery, carpets, and the freezer could benefit from a deeper clean or replacement.
The location is widely praised for its stunning sea views, peacefulness, and proximity to beautiful walks. Its rural, secluded setting is a highlight, though guests note the need for a car due to the lack of local amenities and public transport.
Guests describe the cottage as comfortable, cosy, and homely, with good beds and a warm atmosphere. Some mention steep stairs and draughty top bedrooms in winter, but overall comfort is rated highly.
The cottage is well-equipped for self-catering, with a good kitchen and log burner. Some guests noted minor maintenance issues such as a sticking back door, faulty toaster, and lack of secure garden fencing for dogs. The freezer being in the garage was seen as inconvenient.
There are no mentions of welcome gifts or extra thoughtful touches in the reviews, so a score cannot be provided for this category.

We stayed here for 4 nights. Views and location are stunning. Upstairs was quite clean and comfortable but there were a number of issues downstairs. The upholstery and carpets and rugs are quite dirty and need a deep clean or replacing. The freezer is in the garage which we only found out after 3 days from reading previous reviews. Freezer feels dirty as there are no instructions in the cottage. The kitchen bench cushions are completely gone and I couldn’t even sit on them. The toaster is a bit sticky and burns the toast. These issues have been mentioned in other reviews but nothing seems to have been done about it.

Superb cottage, all equipment you need for self catering clean and fresh on arrival, fridge and freezer in garage could do with being replaced as getting bit grubby, isolated area which is exactly what we wanted, peaceful and beautiful settings coastal views stunning sunrise and sunsets, lovely rural and coastal walks, friendly area, need warm tops to pop on as gets very windy and can feel quite cool even on warm days, only gripe is the garden is good to sit out but it is not secure in any way for dogs, there are gaps/broken/old wooden fencing that leads onto livestock fields so extra care needed if taking dogs they will have to be extra well behaved/watched or kept on leads for all round safety. Being honest the whole fencing needs replacing and probably wire attached to keep dogs in.
