This wonderful cottage is part of Seaton Hall, an ancient manor house with over a thousand years of recorded history. For an authentic stay in somewhere truly unique, this is a perfect choice, immerse yourself in a holiday like no other. Seaton Mote gets its name as the property is beside the remnants of what was once a moat surrounding Seaton Hall. This stretch of water is now home to a family of ducks who nest amongst the reeds. Offering 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, this large property is perfect for a family gathering or special occasion. Entering Seaton Mote there is an open plan kitchen/dining room, where you can start each day with a hearty home-cooked breakfast, whilst planning the activities for the day ahead. The separate living room has plenty of comfy seating around the TV, for cosy movie nights in. The living spaces are snug making this property more suitable for groups of 8, although with the 5 bedrooms, 10 guests are welcome. There are three bedrooms on the first floor, and two on the ground floor.

Seaton Hall has a fascinating past, the hall was named after the De Seton dynasty who resided from 1130 to 1307, and whose family made allegiances with and marriages to the Scottish Royal family. Passed down through generations, before slipping into disrepair. The present owner purchased the estate in 2002. He has employed a team of specialist masons and craftsmen and has been lovingly rebuilding and restoring this incredible place of local heritage.

The local cafe and bistro, owned by the owners, open seven days a week is well worth a visit after a day of exploring! There is something to delight everyone in the area, with picturesque walking trails including the Cleveland Way leading across the cliff tops. Many pretty coastal villages such as Runswick Bay, Robin Hoods Bay, Staithes and the historical seafaring town of Whitby will delight guests. Whitby, with its cobbled old town, independent shops and cafes, boat trips and the iconic Abbey ruins makes for a great day out. Saltburn is a surfer’s paradise, with a beautiful Victorian pier. You can take a trip on the steam train across the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, taking in the views and visiting some beautiful villages along the way. For children, you can ride the miniature train in Ruswarp before hiring a boat to row along the river. Youngsters are sure to be delighted playing on the beach as well as visiting the arcades and miniature golf in Whitby, for an extra special treat you can even take them to Flamingo Land theme park and zoo.

Pets are welcome at this property. This area is a haven for dogs, with lots of walks to choose from as well as many dog friendly cafes and pubs. This is sure to be a stay to remember, twined with history, culture and the surrounding countryside. There is also a cafe on site as well as an antiques barn to browse. Beach 1 mile. A lovely 2 week holiday in this cottage on the edge of Staithes. We had family visiting from Australia for a family wedding and we needed more room for them all. The cottage had 5 bedrooms, 2 doubles on the ground floor - good for those with less mobility and 2 twin rooms and another double upstairs and every room had a bathroom, although only the downstairs bathrooms had showers, I guess water pressure might be more of an issue upstairs? There was a big lounge with comfy sofas and a kitchen table with 6 chairs. We played cards and other games and welcomed friends there. The beds and towels were changed at the end of the first week, which was great. There was a dishwasher although it’s not mentioned on the blurb and a washer dryer which was very useful. In some of the reviews there was mention of the heating not being warm enough, whereas we found the cottage lovely and warm. Also some mention of cobwebs… well come on, in the country you would expect a selection of spiders and we fished a few out of the baths but no more than you’d expect!! 🤷‍♀️There are a number of pubs locally and we tried them all. The Fox and Hounds has incredibly cheap beer - 4 pints and a coke for £13.50. The cod and lobster is recommended for food but you need to book, so only some of our group managed to eat in there. We had a lovely Sunday roast in The Tiger Inn, great food and great staff… delicious! There is a fish and chip shop at the top of the bank, which was really yummy! For the area generally, the hill/bank down into Staithes is pretty steep, so not so good for anyone with mobility issues although there is a railing to hang on to and there is a biggish Coop at the top of the bank. We understand that the owner is planning to extend the kitchen/diner area next year. That will be a great addition. Thanks to the owner William, we had a lovely stay.

Seaton Mote could be a very good property . Unfortunately for us the entrance door and a few of the doors all had splits in, the downstairs on-suite door also had two big holes in. Upstairs the bathrooms only had curtains across them. So there was no privacy. Some of the skirting boards where coming away .There was no broom, dustpan and brush or dish cloth. Luckily I brought a new cloth with me. Two cupboards were filled with God knows what, we could not use them. My husband found some ladies pants in the drawer , which we left there. Also the towels where left on the beds folded up but wet. Apparently there was a laundry issue. That I'm afraid was no excuse. We paid a lot of money to stay there and expected to get the quality that we have been used to. The property needs a thorough de cobwebbing and sorting out.

An attractive cottage style property with shared courtyard containing mature shrubs and plants. Lots of bedroom space. Kitchen area functional but would be rather small for a larger party. Rural setting with lovely views over adjacent countryside. Near to Staithes - walking distance for the reasonably fit.
