Guests say

Eagles Gate Lodge is a charming, well-equipped cottage set in beautiful countryside just outside Banff. Guests consistently praise its peaceful location, enclosed gardens ideal for dogs, and the warm, welcoming touches provided by the owner. The property is clean and comfortable, with spacious living areas and easy access to local attractions. While some mention minor maintenance issues and the bathroom size, the overall experience is highly positive, making it a popular choice for families and pet owners seeking a relaxing rural retreat.

Most guests found the cottage clean and tidy, with only occasional mentions of minor issues such as a smoky smell or slight dampness in some rooms. The majority of reviews highlight a high standard of cleanliness throughout the property.

The location is frequently described as excellent, peaceful, and convenient for exploring Banff and the Moray coast. Guests appreciate the secluded setting, proximity to local amenities, and abundance of wildlife.

Guests generally found the cottage comfortable and spacious, with cosy living areas and good heating. Some noted the bathroom is small for larger groups and a few mentioned a damp smell or less comfortable lounge furniture, but these were outweighed by positive comments.

The cottage is well-equipped, especially for dog owners, with enclosed gardens and kitchen essentials. Some guests noted minor maintenance issues (e.g., oven door, bathroom sealant, window latch) and suggested a few more kitchen items, but overall facilities met most needs.

Many guests appreciated thoughtful touches such as welcome baskets, fresh flowers, and dog treats. While these gifts are frequently mentioned, it should be noted that such gestures are not guaranteed for every stay.

This picture-postcard cottage was refurbished in late 2020 without losing its original character; with a new kitchen, bathroom, carpets and paintwork throughout. Superbly set in enclosed front and back gardens, its enjoys the sun for most of the day so you can sit outside to enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner. The property sleeps up to six in three bedrooms, all with garden views. It has a bright, airy kitchen, dining room and living room with wood burner, and is ideal for dog owners with some amazing walks nearby.

Not only does Eagles Gate Lodge enjoy its own sunny microclimate, it is also set within the stunning grounds of the former Duff House estate, once owned by the Duke of Fife. Indeed, this surprisingly spacious Grade A listed cottage was once one of the lodge houses for the estate and enjoys an enviable location in the countryside, yet only a mile from Duff House itself and all the amenities of Banff and its quiet, sandy beaches.

The towns of Banff and Macduff, only a couple of miles away, sit on either side of Banff Bay where you can regularly see dolphins and even the occasional Orca whale during the summer months. Banff has a marina and Macduff a fishing harbour, and both towns have a number of pubs and excellent places to eat offering a variety of cuisines including vegan and seafood. Additionally, the nearby Deveron is a salmon river where day tickets can be purchased. It is a great base to explore the wider Aberdeenshire area, from the numerous castles and historic monuments, to fantastic outdoor activities along the beautiful noth-east coastline. Explore the Whisky Trail further inland which wends its way through dramatic scenery, or visit the city of Aberdeen, approximately 1 hour away, for retail therapy, cinemas and theatre. Beach 2 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 2 miles.

Enjoyed being in this cottage which we chose for its location and access to the north coast. The cottage is just off the main road, easy to find but very quiet and private. It is thoughtfully decorated and very clean and spacious. There is ample parking and a picnic table if you are lucky with the weather! We would be happy to return

Absolutely fantastic week in this gorgeous cottage in an even more gorgeous setting. Hope to return. Everything we needed was there. We were a family of 5 and 2 dogs.

The cottage’s garden was excellent for Luna, our 5 year old black Labrador, due to the fact that she could gain access to the front and rear without us worrying about her getting out. The cottage itself is a bit tired and needing a wee bit of TLC. We had booked for 4 persons but only two of us could make it. Turns out we were glad of that due to size of toilet/shower. There are beds for 6 but I’ve no idea how this would work out with regards to shower use. There were fresh flowers and a nice supply of tea coffee etc and fresh milk and bread waiting for us. Plenty of logs were laid on for the lounge wood burner and these could be topped up with extra from a log basket. All in all, because we got sunshine every day we really enjoyed the break. Would I go back. Probably not.
