In the heart of the Scottish countryside close to the sea lies the Arbuthnott Estate, home of the Arbuthnott family for over 900 years and more than thirty-five generations. Arbuthnott Holiday Cottages are a perfect base to explore this area of fascinating history. Situated just 3½ miles from the coast and with easy access to Royal Deeside, guests can have energetic or relaxing holidays here - the choice of activities is endless! The road network is very good, making it an ideal location from which to explore much of Scotland.
Comfortably furnished, they make a great choice at any time of the year, to enjoy the peace and solitude of this unspoilt area. Cloud Howe is one of three cottages situated in the Old School, which has been sympathetically restored to provide cosy cottages, and are named after the renowned novels of local author Lewis Grassic Gibbon. The cottages are less than 10 minutes in the car to Inverbervie. Arbuthnott house is officially open to the public 10 days a year, although the owners are delighted to book in small groups to the house and gardens, appealing to many enthusiasts - email arbuthnotthouse@gmail.com to arrange a time.
All cottages are well furnished and equipped with an enclosed garden area at the back and open garden at the front. They are next to a playing field that has a play park in it. There are plenty of walking and cycling opportunities nearby. Inverbervie with its shingly beach and good coastal walks is just 3½ miles away, with many of the facilities you may need. Just 9 miles away is the bustling market town of Stonehaven with an outdoor heated pool – brilliant in summer. Take a trip to Dunnottar Castle, a proud monument overlooking the sea near Stonehaven and the inspiration for the location of the Disney film, Brave. Montrose, with clean sandy beaches, golf courses and leisure activities is just 13 miles away and it is easy to access the Angus Glens from here. You may want to travel on the Victorian Heritage Trail, through Edzell and Fettercairn towards Banchory.
Beach 3½ miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 3½ miles. Petrol station Fiddes Bridge 8 miles away.

Lovely place to stay with our dog. Very comfy and spacious with everything you needed for self catering. Playing field and Grassic Gibbon cafe and museum next door were excellent. Close to the coast and visiting lovely walks and fishing villages. Stonehaven to Arbroath and House of Dunn and Dunnotar Castle. Great meal at The Harbour Gourdon and Maggie Law museum. Johnshaven lovely to visit too.

Notre séjour dans le cottage Cloud Howe à Arbuthnott s'est très bien passé. Le cottage est spacieux, les espaces de vie sont agréables et bien aménagés. La communication avec Emily a été fluide et très amicale. Annella, qui vit juste à côté, a été d'une aide très précieuse également. Le seul problème que nous avons rencontré a été une panne de la machine à laver et tout a été réglé en une journée : bravo pour la réactivité et encore merci !Les points d'amélioration pourraient être d'avoir des rideaux vraiment occultants dans les chambres (surtout à l'étage) et d'avoir davantage de petites cuillères. Mais ce sont vraiment des détails ;-)Enfin, c'est un point de départ parfait pour visiter la région d'Aberdeen (35 min). Le château de Dunnottar est à seulement 15 min et Stonehaven à 20 min. Nous garderons de merveilleux souvenirs de nos vacances en famille <3Je recommande à 100 % ce cottage !
