The cottage interior has been cleverly converted to provide a flexible living space. The south end, or ‘day room’, has an open play/activity area, with toys, electric organ and collapsible table tennis table, or space for such as yoga mats or painting easels. Adjacent to this is a dining area with a large table seating 8-10 people, and a well equipped open kitchen. There are doors straight into the garden from this room. Meanwhile, the north end, buffered by a short corridor and bathroom, comprises a quiet sitting room with comfortable chairs, sofas, writing desk and open fire.
There is currently no TV, only a wi-fi hub with internet speeds averaging 10Mbps download and 1.5Mbps upload.
The four bedrooms above, serviced by two shower rooms and toilets, are large, despite being heavily coombed, with large Velux windows giving enticing views into the surrounding woods. For anyone unable to climb the stairs, there is a downstairs sofa bed and bathroom - see below.
Outside, the large private garden is a total delight! It comprises what was once the rockery of the nearby baronial mansion, constructed in the late 19th century, plus an open grass area with site for an open fire, a children’s play house, and stunning views. There is also a patio area for sipping your morning coffee as the sun rises, or dining al fresco on a warm evening. The property is just a short walk from the sea and secluded beaches, allowing guests to easily embrace the beauty of the Solway Coast. We came here for peace and quiet, and comfort, and that's what we got. Over the past few years we've stayed at various cottages, and this one is by far the best yet. The cottage is in a super quiet place. You absolutely will not hear any road noise. The building has loads of character. It's a long two storey house and has the following layout. Downstairs ----------------- A huge kitchen and living / play room area (open plan). The kitchen area is great to cook in, the kitchen table is huge and I spent most of my time sitting at it, and there's a great big (and effective) log / coal burning stove. A short hall with the front door, and the downstairs bathroom. A living room with an open fire. Upstairs -------------- Four bedrooms and two bathrooms, and two staircases leading up to them. Upstairs has a great atmosphere. You can walk from one end of the house to the other through all bedrooms, but that doesn't mean you have to. All bedrooms can be accessed from the two staircases without passing through anyone else's room. The whole layout of the house is just a little bit unusual, and has some kind of magic about it. We really liked it. It's welcoming. You feel cosy in it. And it's clean. No smell of damp or anything bad. --------------- There's no TV but there is wifi. I speedtested it multiple times and consistently got speeds of around 10.2 Mbps, which is plenty fast enough for streaming video. My wife and I brought a laptop each and were able to stream our respective stuff at the same time without the video buffering. In other words, she was in the living room streaming her soaps on iplayer and itvx, while I was in the kitchen streaming netflix video or watching stuff on youtube. If you like walking or running you'll be spoilt for choice for trails. They are all over the place. Search up Forestry and Land Trails Auchencairn, or Dalbeattie. The town wood trails up at Dalbeattie are beautiful. So, highly recommended. We expect to be back.

We had the best time in this gorgeous, quaint rustic cottage. 5 adults and 2 dogs. Accommodation, spacious. Open fire and a Woodburner. Garden absolutely gorgeous. So many different pockets to explore. BBQ available for use. Up a dirt track allows you to have the most perfect peace. Dining kitchen huge and enough kitchenalia for all eventualities. Welcome pack was greatly appreciated too. We all adored our stay. Would absolutely go back. We didn't leave all weekend due to my son bringing all the food to cook. Happy days.

Gardener's Cottage was a delight to spend time in. It has many traditional features with 'mod cons'. It is ideally situated to explore the Galloway coast, with super walks right from the doorstep. We thoroughly enjoyed eating outside in the lovely garden. We would love to return at some point in the near future.
