Gardener’s Cottage is a detached Victorian building situated within a 3000-acre estate providing the perfect base for your stay. Enjoy the wood burner and open fire, with feature bridge over stream in garden and many tourist attractions nearby.. Enjoying an idyllic situation on the 3000-acre Crofts Estate, surrounded by the Galloway Hills, these holiday cottages have enviable, dramatic views towards the Solway Firth and Cumbrian Hills beyond. Accessed along a private drive, and adjoining a cluster of well-maintained estate buildings, Stable Cottage (ref UUD) makes a romantic hideaway for two, offering stylishly furnished accommodation – its walls adorned with the original work of various Scottish artists. The larger Victorian detached Gardener’s Cottage (ref UXT) has been elegantly furnished, and features an attractive shared garden with a bridge over a burn and a small waterfall. Arkland Mill (ref sttz) stands detached with a lovely large garden, a summerhouse and its own bridge over the stream. Marwhin House (swwr) and Marwhin Cottage (ref swws) also stand detached, situated within 25 yards of each other, still with there own privacy, the latter two properties being set in gardens with a delightful stream and pond. Woodland walks and hillside trails radiate from the doorstep. Dumfries lies just 12 miles away, where there are plenty of shops, restaurants and museums, as well as a good theatre. Castle Douglas (8 miles) is a traditional market town with individual shops specialising in food and local produce. There are many beautiful beaches within easy reach along the Solway, and the National Trust Threave Gardens, 8 miles, makes for an interesting day out. Other tourist attractions in the area include the Galloway Kite Trail, the Galloway Forest Park and golf courses and museums in Dumfries. Village shop and pub within 4 miles.. 2 steps to entrance.

This is our third time at the Gardener’s Cottage, fourth time on the estate. It’s peaceful, has everything you need, lovely location. We will be heading back again

The setting of the beautiful cottage is chocolate box perfect. There are walks up on to the moor from the front door. It is warm, very clean and nicely decorated. There is everything you need, but we had to run the dishwasher before it was full, as we ran out of crockery. A few extra plates etc would be nice.Our biggest bugbear was the lack of a proper shower. There was just a hand- held sprayer over the bath, with no shower screen to prevent wetting the floor. Extra points given for large and plentiful towels.We are in our late 70s. We are fit, and walk 6 miles or so every day, and easily manage stiles, but arthritic knees mean getting up out of a bath is almost impossible. So showering standing up in a slippery bath and occasionally wetting the floor slightly, was the only option. The nearest pub food (excellent) is about 3 miles away in Crocketford, as is a useful village shop.There are plenty of attractions in this corner of Scotland, though be prepared to drive 40 minutes or more to most.We saw lots of wildlife and very much enjoyed our stay.

Great wee get away the Collie loved it. Very quite with no noise of Motorways or airports. The house was very nice and clean and had lovely gardens to wander around. Just what we needed and hopefully we will return again.
