Situated overlooking the pretty harbour village of Portpatrick, Saffron is the nearest house to Dunskey Golf Club with its 18 and 9 hole courses. This luxuriously equipped house has spacious private gardens and sits in an elevated position, it boasts a stunning sea view and is only a short stroll from the seafront, with an old lighthouse, shops, post office, restaurants, pubs, and a small sandy beach. Other village facilities include: two tennis courts, a mini golf putting green, a children’s play area with swings and climbing frames.
Boasting a stunning coastline with sandy beaches, rugged beaches, rocky coves and windswept cliffs, the area is a cyclists and walker’s paradise. The Southern Upland Way starts in Portpatrick and offers everything from gentle walks to challenging hikes. There are many coastal villages to explore in the area. Wildlife is abundant with many unusual species including pine martens, golden eagle, ospreys, red deer, red squirrels and the natterjack toad. The rspb Mull of Galloway Visitor Centre with thousands of nesting birds on the cliffs is well worth a visit. Sea fishing from Portpatrick and both trout and salmon fishing are close by. Other country pursuits are available including shooting and riding. Beach ½ mile. Shop and pub ½ mile, restaurant 150 yards.

Stayed for a week as 2 families, 4 adults and 4 children ages 9-15, and our dog. The house is a fantastic size, space for everyone, spacious bedrooms with comfortable, clean beds. 3 en suites and 2 extra bathrooms. Beautiful garden which our big dog enjoyed exploring. Well appointed and very comfortable furnishings. Lovely big living room we could all sit in together. The TV has sky, Netflix etc, perfect for sitting down watching a movie together in the evening. The sea views from the back of the house are beautiful, we liked to sit in the sun room which looks down onto the sea. Lots of lovely walks locally, we particularly enjoyed the long walk to the lighthouse. This could be challenging for people with mobility issues. We also jumped in the cars and went to Sandhead beach which was 15 mins away. We planned on eating out but we had an Asda grocery delivery and ended up with so many dinner options we cooked every night in the well appointed kitchen. We loved the huge dining table we could all sit round. So much space! We did visit the Crown pub a couple of times as we all liked a bowl of their chips after a long walk, and the dog was made welcome in there and given treats by the staff. Kim the manager of the house was fantastic, left us a lovely welcome pack so the kids (and adults) had something to eat when we arrived. Kim also left a treat for our dog which was a thoughtful touch. Really good communication. If we decided to visit Portpatrick again in the future we would definitely book saffron for our stay.

The only down side is the Wi-Fi unsecured access port. A system that requires a password would be ideal
