Chaff House is a charming and tranquil cottage retreat, highly praised for its peaceful rural setting, friendly and helpful host, and delightful farm animals. Guests particularly enjoyed the hot tub, cosy interiors, and thoughtful touches such as welcome treats. The property offers a perfect escape from city life, with easy access to scenic countryside and local attractions. While most reviews are very positive, a few guests noted minor maintenance and accessibility issues. Overall, the cottage provides a restful and memorable stay, ideal for both couples and families seeking relaxation and nature.
Most guests found the cottage clean and comfortable, with only one review mentioning issues such as the need for a more thorough clean and some kitchen utensils requiring attention. The majority of feedback did not raise concerns about cleanliness.
The rural location is widely appreciated for its stunning views, tranquillity, and proximity to nature and animals. Some guests mentioned the long single-track road as a challenge, but most felt the peaceful setting was well worth the journey.
Guests consistently described the cottage as cosy, comfortable, and warm, with underfloor heating and a spacious shower. The hot tub and peaceful environment contributed to a relaxing stay, though one review noted accessibility concerns in the wet room for those with disabilities.
The hot tub, well-equipped kitchen, and farm setting were frequently praised. Some minor maintenance issues were mentioned, such as a broken table leg and towel rail, but these did not detract significantly from the overall experience.
Many guests appreciated thoughtful touches such as welcome baskets, Prosecco, treats, and essentials like tea and coffee. While these gifts are mentioned in several reviews, it should be noted that such gestures are not guaranteed for every stay.

We had the perfect getaway we both needed to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life! Upon our arrival, someone was there to greet us and provide a warm welcome. They took the time to show us around and offered support whenever we needed assistance. We were delighted to find a complimentary bottle of prosecco and some of the best shortbread we've ever tasted waiting for us. Plus, the cottage was thoughtfully stocked with essentials we had forgotten to bring, such as coffee, tea bags, and sugar. We also brought our little dog, who is usually a bit skittish around other people and animals. However, he was surprisingly captivated by one of the donkeys nearby! After a few curious barks, he enjoyed just standing and watching the donkey for quite some time. We're already planning our next trip back! The cottage had plenty of beds, which made it perfect for a getaway with friends. The shower was another highlight, spacious, with excellent water pressure. Even when the weather turned cold and rainy outside, the cottage remained cosy and warm, making it the perfect sanctuary for relaxing and unwinding after a long day or during rainy moments. We can’t wait to return!

We loved our stay. Previous reviews moaning about the long country road to the accommodation are unfair - you can’t expect to stay in a place with such wonderful views and scenery without a journey away from the local town to get there. Angela was a great host and has mastered the balance of being on hand if you need anything but not at all imposing. All of the animals are great - watching the horses in the evening from the hot tub was lovely and we always had a daily visit from the beautiful peacock who was very pretty. The lambs were so cute and always happy to see us on our way passed. The Chaff House is lovely and we cooked our dinner most nights. The kitchen is equipped with what you need. We also had takeaway from the Chinese ‘Lucky House’ which was really nice and nipped in to the Railway Inn for a drink - they were very welcoming having only just reopened. Local sites we enjoyed were Glasgow Cathedral and the Necropolis, we enjoyed a day in Edinburgh and saw the castle and we also climbed Loudoun Hill in Darvel which was good fun - very windy at the top! Overall we would recommend the Chaff House and we had a wonderful time.
