Gate Lodge is a charming cottage in the Scottish Borders, appreciated for its cleanliness, superb location with beautiful walks and proximity to cities, and its cosy, well-equipped kitchen. While some guests found the space smaller than expected, the property is often described as lovely, clean, and comfortable, with a well-stocked log shed and thoughtful welcome gifts.
Most guests found the cottage to be clean and well-presented, with only a few mentioning the need for a deeper clean or issues with pet hair. The overall high standard of cleanliness contributes to a positive experience.
The location is highly praised for its tranquillity, natural beauty, and convenience for shopping and day trips to Edinburgh and Glasgow. The presence of a train track nearby was noted but not considered a significant issue by most.
The cottage is often described as cosy and comfortable, especially with the log burner. However, some guests felt the seating and space were limited, particularly for larger groups, and mentioned issues with bed comfort.
Facilities like the smart TV and well-equipped kitchen were appreciated, but some guests reported maintenance issues and a lack of certain kitchen items. The WiFi reliability and heating control were also points of concern.
Guests were delighted by welcome gifts and the provision of logs for the fire, indicating a level of thoughtfulness. However, it should be noted that such gifts are a kind gesture and may not be guaranteed for every stay.
