Bwthyn Llechen is a well-received holiday rental in Porthmadog, praised for its excellent location and comfortable accommodation. Guests appreciate the pet-friendly environment, proximity to local attractions, and the thoughtful touches like guide books and maps. While some minor maintenance issues and cleanliness concerns were noted, the overall sentiment is positive, with many guests expressing a desire to return.
Cleanliness received mixed reviews. While some guests found the apartment clean and well-presented, others reported issues such as a need for more thorough cleaning and maintenance. However, recent changes in housekeepers suggest an improvement in this area.
The location is highly praised for being quiet yet central, with easy access to local amenities, attractions, and beautiful scenery. It is considered an ideal base for exploring North Wales.
Guests find the apartment comfortable, with a warm and cosy atmosphere and good sleeping arrangements. Some concerns were raised about the size of the bathroom sink and the ease of access to the double bed.
Facilities are generally well-regarded, with a well-equipped kitchen and secure parking. However, there were comments about the lack of towels, broken appliances, and missing keys, indicating room for improvement in maintenance.
While guests appreciated the provision of maps, guide books, and a well-equipped kitchen, there were no specific mentions of gifts. Therefore, it is not possible to assess the thoughtfulness in terms of gifts, and the score is set to null.
Bwthyn Llechen is a holiday apartment in a pretty, Grade II listed building nestled in the quiet back streets of Porthmadog on the Llŷn Peninsula. Formerly the Slate Wharf manager's house for the Oakley quarry at Ffestiniog, it has now been carefully converted, retaining its fine exterior, into a relaxing, contemporary, spacious holiday apartment all on one level (great for wobbly knees and hips!). If you are keen to reduce your carbon footprint you can arrive by train or bicycle and have masses to do from here without needing a car. Porthmadog is home to the Ffestiniog Railways - hop on a train and visit the slate mines at Llechwedd, travelling through some stunning scenery, or take a Sherpa bus to the foot of Snowdon, going through the pretty village of Beddgelert. Good cafes and restaurants are all within walking distance - try Hen Fecws! Discover wonderful beaches at Black Rock Sands and pretty coves and bays around the harbour at Borth Y Gest. This apartment is a delight and in the most convenient central location. There is parking for two cars, too. A fabulous place to stay whilst on holiday in North Wales!
The bustling harbour town of Porthmadog lies on the Glaslyn Estuary and enjoys a stunning setting. The gateway to the Snowdonia National Park, Porthmadog is full of individual shops and restaurants, and home to the Ffestiniog Railway, where you can travel by steam through spectacular Snowdonia scenery, to Blaenau Ffestiniog. The pretty village of Borth Y Gest, with its cliffs and coves, is a short walk or drive from the town. The well known and unique Italianate village of Portmeirion is just down the coast. Situated on a rugged clifftop on its own private peninsula, Portmeirion, famous as the location of the TV show The Prisoner and the final episode of Cold Feet, is surrounded by miles of sandy beaches and woodlands. The area also boasts castles at Criccieth and Harlech, and superb unspoilt beaches such as Black Rock Sands, where the sands stretch as far as the eye can see. An ideal location for the attractions of Snowdonia and the The Lleyn Peninsula.

Although overall clean and reasonably equipped, as with all holiday rentals, after so much usage it is now starting to show its age. Apart from this criticism we had a lovely stay and would recommend this property.

No hesitation in re- booking and we were not disappointed. The apartment was spotlessly clean, well maintained and fully equiped with everything you could need. The location is quiet yet near to all Port Madogs amenities and the private parking a bonus. Can highly recommend.
