About this property

A wonderful, Grade II Captain's House in Porthmadog with outstanding views of the Marina, Mountains and Steam Trains, yet tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the marina and shops of this North Wales seaside resort is the wonderful residence Wenallt. Enjoying a superb location with stunning views over the town, harbour and mountains, this former Grade 2 listed Captains residence also enjoys a fantastic interior with stained glass windows, period features, and an array of artwork, making Wenallt a lovely dog-friendly choice for couples or a family of six. The property benefits from roadside parking and a generous rear, sloping garden with furniture, accessed via steep steps. On the ground floor, you can whip up family favourites in the well-equipped kitchen/diner, featuring a gas fire and original slate flooring, ready to savour at the breakfast table or as a more formal affair in the delightful dining room, lined with bookshelves and a decorative stove. After dinner, relax in the sitting room on the plush seating as you watch a much-loved show on the TV, whilst your pooches curl up in the warm glow of the open fire. The ground floor is completed by a sleek shower room where you can freshen up at the end of the day. Continue upstairs, where you will find a well-appointed bathroom, featuring an original cast iron bath, and a cloakroom with Victorian WC. When sleep calls, three well-presented bedrooms await, two doubles, one with a view over the harbour, the other with a feature fireplace, high ceiling and access to the garden, and a twin, also with harbour views. Explore the bustling town, where you can treat your loved ones to a meal at the award-winning Yr Hen Fecws Restaurant, the Australia Pub, and fresh fish and chips from Allports. Or stock up on essentials at the supermarkets and convenience stores, tour the Maritime Museum, hop aboard the Welsh Highland Railway for a scenic ride through incomparable scenery, or enjoy leisurely strolls through the harbour. Head to nearby Borth Y Gest, where you will find a beautiful beach, or continue onto Morfa Bychan, where you can test out your clubs at the excellent Porthmadog Golf Club, dine at the Black Rock Beach Club, and visit nearby Black Rock Sands. For exceptional hiking and cycling opportunities, venture into the Snowdonia National Park, where you can take on the famous Snowdon Peak and explore underground mines at Zip World Llechwedd. Continue on to Harlech, home to a fabulous beach with mountain views, a fascinating castle and a superb golf club. Your adventure to North Wales begins at Wenallt.

Porthmadog, a thriving port town, is situated in a picture-perfect location on the Glaslyn Estuary. Porthmadog is the starting point for steam trains across the stunning Snowdonia landscape to Blaenau Ffestiniog and Caerforn, and it is also home to a variety of unique shops and eateries. Borth Y Gest, a picturesque village known for its cliffs and bays, is easily accessible on foot or by car from the city. Just along the coast is Portmeirion, a renowned and distinctive Italianate settlement. Portmeirion, made famous as the setting for The Prisoner and the finale of Cold Feet, is a little town perched on a cliff on its own private peninsula, surrounded by miles of sandy beaches and woods. As an added bonus, the area is home to the castles of Criccieth and Harlech, as well as beautiful, untouched beaches like Black Rock Sands, which feature stretches of sand that go on for miles. Zip World Slate Caves and Bounce Below are also easily accessible and provide a wide range of activities, from zipping along the underground caverns to jumping around in a giant trampoline. A wonderful base from which to explore Snowdonia and the Lleyn Peninsula.

The house is quite quirky with lots of original features, antique furniture and artworks, and lots of books! Very comfortable beds, kitchen is well equipped. We would visit again.

It is one of the most beautiful holiday homes we've ever stayed in. From the original features and fittings to the book and art collection, it's a delight to stay in. As well as the aspect and proximity to the high street, pubs etc. and some fantastic coastal walks! The photos do NOT do it justice - particularly the bedrooms, which are really attractive and comfortable, and nicer than they appear on the website. Improvements - you could fit more seating into the lounge to suit a house that sleeps 6. Some larger pots and pans - no big sautee pan, just the one big saucepan.

It looks great in the brochure photographs and text but in reality it exceeded our expectations. I would certainly consider booking a holiday there again.
