The Old Mill is a beautifully presented cottage in a tranquil rural setting, praised for its spaciousness, well-equipped kitchen, and relaxing hot tub. Guests consistently highlight the friendly and helpful owners, comfortable furnishings, and suitability for families and dog owners. The property offers excellent access to local walks and attractions. While most reviews are highly positive, a few mention minor maintenance issues, occasional cleanliness concerns, and patchy WiFi. Overall, guests leave with fond memories and a strong desire to return.
Most guests found the property clean and well-presented, with several specifically praising the high standard of cleanliness. However, a small number of reviews noted issues such as dust, a dirty oven, and flies, which slightly lowers the score.
The location is frequently described as peaceful, beautiful, and ideal for exploring local attractions and walks. Its rural setting is a highlight for many, though a few mention the distance to shops and amenities.
Guests consistently mention comfortable beds, spacious rooms, and a homely atmosphere. The cottage is well-suited for families and groups, though a few tall guests noted low beams, and one review mentioned a chilly interior.
The property is praised for its well-equipped kitchen, hot tub, and dog-friendly features. Some minor issues were noted, such as WiFi reliability, fly problems, and occasional maintenance needs (e.g., barbecue, kitchen tap, hot tub jets).
Many guests appreciated thoughtful touches such as welcome gifts (tea, coffee, Welsh cakes, milk, mulled wine, dog treats), Christmas decorations, and attentive hosts. Please note that such gifts are not guaranteed for every stay.
Superb detached, stone-built former 18th century mill, next to the owners working livestock farm, just outside of the small hamlet of Dolau and eight miles from Llandrindod Wells. Benefiting from being on an acre of private grounds, and with direct access to a small river at the end of the garden, this rural retreat is ideal for a family or a group of friends looking for a Powys holiday to remember. Set over three floors, The Old Mill is immaculately presented throughout, with character wooden beams which have been beautifully preserved. Park your car, walk up the five steps to the covered terrace and pause to notice the splendid hot tub, just waiting for you to have a soak in later on.
Enter through the front door and to left of the hall theres a convenient shower room, as well as a utility room and a storage room, which doubles as a dog room with a cage available. Continue through to the outstanding open planned living area with a kitchen, dining area and a sitting area, excellently-equipped with an American-style fridge/freezer, a Rangemaster cooker and an oak dining table with enough space for the whole party to enjoy as delicious meal. The French doors lead out onto the side garden, ideal for some alfresco dining whilst the corner leather sofa is perfect for relaxing on whilst the chef in the party prepares a delicious meal.
This room is made warm and cosy by the underfloor electric heating, complete with zoned controls. Walk up the oak stairs to the first floor and into the sitting room, offering dual aspect Juliet balconies on both sides of the room and comfortable seating for seven in front of the Smart TV. Just off the rear of this sitting room is a twin bedroom, ideal for the children in your party. Continue up to the second floor and on your left is a double bedroom, whilst next to there is a further bedroom with 4 double bed, for smaller members of your family.
Opposite this room is a splendid king-size double bedroom, complemented by a built-in wardrobe and a feature pulley from the old mills grindstone. A stylish bathroom completes the luxurious accommodation at this charming cottage, ideal for relaxing in after a day out walking or cycling. On a summers day, you could play a game of cricket or football on the spacious, partially enclosed, lawned garden, or you could even have a paddle in the bordering stream. Alternatively, simply relax on the terrace with a glass of bubbly and watch the world go by as the children play with your four-legged friends.
The local area offers excellent opportunities for walking, cycling or just taking in the lovely views of rolling hills and lush green meadows, whilst great days out can be had at the breathtaking Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons) and gorgeous Elan Valley. An outstanding property, in a stunning location, to be enjoyed no matter what time of year you decide to holiday.
Dolau is a small hamlet in Powys, with a very pretty little railway station. Nearby, the town of Llandrindod Wells is centrally located in Mid Wales, and offers a variety of shops and pubs, as well as the pretty Lake Park and Temple Gardens, plus many hiking pathways in and around the town. The annual Victorian festival is held here in August when locals and businesses step back into the time of Victorian Llandrindod Wells - a spectacle not to be missed.

The house is beautifully presented, clean and comfortable. The location is perfect for local walks. The little stream made this for my children who enjoyed it more than the fabulous hot tub ! Highly recommend. Thanks for a lovely stay.

Huge property with many bedrooms. Clean and tidy. David and Heather both were helpful and very nice people. Lovely location and great view. WiFi signal strength and quality or speed not decent. No shampoo or handwashing liquid or soap provided. The kitchen tap was defective. Not an easy to deal with barbecue and small for family.
