About this property

Presteigne 3.6 miles. Settled into the rural hamlet of Knill, near Presteigne, Herefordshire, The Old Rectory is a beautiful family holiday home ideal for those who love to spend time in the countryside. Park off-road and enter via the utility, passing a selection of handy amenities and a cloakroom, before finding the characterful living spaces, beginning with a kitchen with ample amenities, ideal for creating a heart-warming meal, which can be enjoyed at the dining table, visible through a wooden beamed wall beside the kitchen, a beautiful feature of the property. The wooden beams of the walls and ceilings, combined with bare brick walls, add a sense of history to the property, a feature continued into the sitting room and snug, where there are two ornamental fireplaces. The character and charm of this property is continued upstairs, into four lovely bedrooms with fantastic views of the local scenery, including two king-size beds, a family room with a king-size, a single, and a walk-in wardrobe, and a twin, alongside two contemporary bathrooms. The garden has an enclosed area, as well as a more open lawn and offers a space to relax with a cup of tea or to dine alfresco and take in the scenery as your four-legged family member relaxes on the grass beside you. Knill has a selection of walks through the countryside. To stock up on amenities or to enjoy a family meal out, head over to the town of Presteigne, resting on the border between England and Wales and boasting a great number of eateries and independent shops. Here you will also find walks along the River Lugg, including those at Withybeds. Within an easy distance history lovers can visit the ruins of Wigmore Castle and Clun castle, taking a picnic to have in the grounds, or there is the option of many walks through the countryside at Mortimer Forest and see what wildlife you can spot. Indulge in the picturesque scenery of Herefordshire with a stay at The Old Rectory.

Presteigne, a historic village on the border of England and Wales that sits along the banks of the River Lugg, has been named one of Country Life magazine's top 10 towns in Britain. The town's abundance of black and white timbered buildings, narrow cobbled streets, unique shops, tea rooms, and traditional pubs, along with the acclaimed Judges' Lodgings, a Victorian museum complete with stunning judges' apartments, servants' quarters, courtroom, and cells, make it clear why it received this award. The town features music and art festivals all through the year in addition to a farmers' market every month. Discover the Offa's Dyke, the Mortimer Trail, Croft Ambrey, the peaceful valleys of the Lugg, Teme, and Clun, as well as the magnificent hikes up to Wigmore Castle. Visitors laud the small town of Kington, which is well known as a centre for walking, for its beautiful scenery and good walking and cycling in the nearby rolling hills.

It is a friendly, comfortable, spacious home in a beautiful setting. The house was a perfect size for us, grandparents, parents and children. The extra living room, snug, was an ideal space for the three children (10, 12 and 13) to hang out, whilst the adults relaxed in the lounge. There are plenty of leaflets in the house for local walks and attractions. We had a fabulous stroll around the fields, along the river and up to the church with the owner and her friendly dogs, Paula and Pippa! The house is opposite the dairy farm, and you can hear (and smell!) the cows as they come up for milking, but this did not cause us any issues. We had a food delivery during our stay and there were plenty of pots and pans to cook our meals in. Thank you.
