Guests say

Treetops is a beautifully presented cottage in Fairbourne, praised for its stunning views, peaceful location, and private heated pool. Guests consistently highlight the comfort, well-equipped kitchen, and thoughtful touches such as welcome hampers. The property is ideal for families, with spacious living areas and no stairs. While most reviews are highly positive, a few mention minor maintenance issues and access challenges. Overall, guests enjoyed memorable stays and would happily return.

Most guests found the cottage extremely clean and well-presented, with particular praise for the bedding and general tidiness. However, one review noted the need for a deeper clean in some areas, which slightly lowers the score.

The location is frequently described as peaceful with outstanding views over the estuary and countryside. Some guests noted the access track is uneven and may not suit all vehicles, but overall the setting is highly appreciated.

Guests found the cottage cosy, comfortable, and spacious, with comfortable beds and a homely feel. A few suggested the main bedroom bed could be larger, but comfort is generally rated very highly.

The private heated pool is a standout feature, enjoyed by all ages. The kitchen is well-equipped, and there are games and inflatables for children. Some minor maintenance issues were mentioned, such as bifold doors and kitchen appliances, but these did not detract significantly from the overall experience.

Guests appreciated thoughtful touches like generous welcome hampers and a wide selection of teas and coffees. Please note that such gifts are not guaranteed for every stay.

The area is the gateway to the Snowdonia National Park and has plenty of attractions to suit all ages and tastes nearby. Award-winning beaches surround the area with their clean bathing and golden sands. Golf enthusiasts can try their hand at Fairbourne, approximately 2 miles.

Nearby Dolgellau was subject to several gold rushes in the 1860s, when small amounts were found in the estuary, drawing hopeful prospectors from afar. Although some of the quartz veins did yield an amount of the precious metal, the source was short lived. At Bontddu, a few miles west of Dolgellau, gold extracted from that source was used for both the Queen’s wedding ring, and that of Prince Charles and Princess Diana. Today the town comes alive in mid July during the Sesiwn Fawr, when a series of bands and musical activities take place in pubs and open-air stages. For walkers, Dolgellau makes a good base for a number of wonderful walks, including hikes up the magnificent Cader Idris or more gentle ambles along the Mawddach Estuary. Horse riding and train rides along the coast are available locally; not to be missed are the Creggenan Lakes. Other attractions include King Arthur’s Labyrinth in Corris, near Machynlleth, where an underground boat takes visitors into the spectacular caverns under the Braichgoch mountain, accompanied by light and sound effects. The Corris craft centre offers a delight of local crafts, including jewellery, pottery, turned wood, leather goods and candles amongst others. Other places of interest include the Centre for Alternative Technology, the Talyllyn Railway, the unusual Italianate village of Portmeirion and the lively seaside town of Barmouth with its pretty harbour, great beach and seafood. Snowdonia is just under 1 hour away.

Fantastic views and it was wonderful watching the beautiful sunsets from the veranda. It was amazing having the swimming pool all to ourselves. Not all cars would be suitable driving on the single track up to the property. Overall we enjoyed staying there.

The Photo's used to advertise this property are very clever. as they show the view from the place which is beautiful. The photo shows the bifold doors open, these are in such a poor state have not been maintained. we felt we could NOT use these doors. Bifold doors one set did not lock at all and other set were extremely difficult to lock without a fight. Both sets of bifold doors needed major maintenance. When we first arrived everywhere looked clean and tidy. So property had been hoovered and dusted. Also beds and bed linen were clean and tidy. But on closer inspection while we there the whole place needed a deep clean! The cooker extractor was broken, dirty and did not work. Extractors in bathrooms were very dirty and needed good clean. In the kitchen there were only 7 place settings of crockery, property accommodates 8! The fridge/freezer was already frozen up and needed a good defrost, as we had a shop being delivered there was not time for us to do this. Inside the freezer one of freezer drawers was broken and because of all the ice was difficult to use. I asked about the 'track' up to the property and was told it would be dangerous if it was smooth. I asked whether it was uneven with with ground higher in the middle of track due to low suspension on both cars, not whether it was smooth. The track is very UNEVEN with huge pot holes and raised up in the middle of track. It also has a severe sharp bend that did not worry our drivers but the fact it had so many huge pot holes was a worry when trying to navigate the bend. My son had to reverse upto the property in his car just luck he such a skilled driver! When you got to the property the area keeping gates secure was extremely raised with large lump of concrete and could cause a lot of damage to a car. There isn't very much room to miss this either or to park 2 cars. Our information of property told us that during our weeks stay someone would be coming to check the pool, they did NOT. Tuesday the first of our very able swimmers suffered with ear infection caused by bacteria. Before the end of the week all the able swimmers had ear infections so bad they were really extremely unwell, high temperatures severe pain etc. That they had to have following week of from school and work.We have had many holidays in various properties through out England and Wales this is the first time I have had to write such a report.
