Holiday Cottages In Reeth

The quaint village of Reeth is a great spot to appreciate the beauty of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Not far from Richmond, Reeth is surrounded by rolling hills and winding roads. If you need to get away from the daily grind, a cottage holiday here might be just the tonic.

The views from this village are spectacular, and once it used to produce 10% of England's lead. With a firm place in England's industrial history, Reeth is still known by many as 'the capital of Swaledale'. Aside from appreciating the heritage, beauty and a good cuppa, there is plenty to do here. From pony trekking to the arts and crafts trail it's an enjoyable holiday destination for all the family. If you want to venture further afield there are plenty of other beautiful villages nearby to visit for an afternoon.

What our customers say about their holidays

Alma House is really lovely, spacious and comfortable.

Reeth and the surrounding area is just beautiful. A few issues with the house that, for me, makes it a little below expectations of a holiday cottage charging over £1000 per week. 1. My first gripe is the check in time of 5pm. I realise all places are doing this at the moment and using covid and cleaning as an excuse, which is fine if you get there and the place is spotless when you do, sadly this wasn't the case. Yes we had comfortable beds with clean bedding and towels (although the towels are tiny) but dust and cobwebs needed seeing to and there are a number of clothes moths in one bedroom especially. I just think we paid for a day in the cottage which we couldn't use it for it to be clean and while it wasn't horrendous it certainly wasn't perfect, the kitchen cupboards are in need of a good clean especially. 3pm check in would be much nicer and if you are making people leave by 10am and asking them to do half of the cleaners job (stripping and bagging into separate bags all bedding, protectors, towels and kitchen towels) before they go then 3 pm should really be manageable. 2. The cooker! We got there at 5pm on arrival day and at 6pm turned the oven on to warm through a lasagne that had been made at home before our departure. This should have been edible by 7 we thought, but at 8 we were still waiting for it to warm through to the middle. Over the course of the week we tried all of the options on the cooker but none worked very well at all. 3. The Macerator drainage system upstairs is horrendous and super noisy. 4. We were asked to only use the washing machine on a 600 spin. This to me is not acceptable, apparently its something to do with the spin effecting the electrics of the flat below, I'm afraid my opinion on that is if its causing electrical issues the electrics need looking at and it's not the fault of the washing machine or people using it. It would be better to take the washing machine out rather than expecting holiday makers to wash on a spin where a tumble dryer can't be used leaving it taking ages to drip dry and ends up smelling worse than it did before it was washed. On the subject of the grumpy neighbour mentioned in other reviews, we had no issues whatsoever, he was polite and chatted each time we saw him. The parking on the green is just a short walk from the cottage, there is an honesty box for optional payments with a recommendation of £2 for a full day. I had no problem with paying this as it goes towards the upkeep of the beautiful village green. All in all it's a nice house in a lovely area, but I probably wouldn't rush to book it again. We had left our dogs at home, so the lack of outdoor space wasn't a problem for us, but I personally wouldn't recommend it for people taking dogs with them even though it is a dog friendly place.

We struggled to find the cottage (the Post Office Lady helped) and were a little shocked at how tight the small entrance road is to the courtyard for unloading/re-loading.

Once in the cottage, we did find downstairs a little cosy, especially the kitchen and the dishwasher in the garage is a bit of a chore. The front door allows cold drafts into the lounge and could do with sorting out somehow. Upstairs is an absolute delight; with a lovely main bedroom with wonderful views and lots of space between all the bedrooms. One gripe, is the large window in the master bedroom, which has curtain dressings that let the morning light in, so if staying anytime other than the winter, you'd be woken up by the rising sun very early! The extra blinds at the windows need replacing (one missing, one broken), so it would be thoughtful to get some black-out blinds up, or line the curtains with black-out fabric: No-one wants to lose sleep on holiday! The bed is very comfortable. It has to be one of the most peaceful stays we have ever had: Away from traffic noise is a blessing. The garden has lovely views, but we did miss out on some warm, afternoon sun (when it was out) coming into the garden as the neighbours have their trees very high. It is a holiday cottage that made for a lovely, quiet break, but that break did end on a sour note, as during the last evening's stay, the cottage lost its wifi signal and that meant we couldn't operate the central heating and as it had been a very wet September day/night, we were very cold and went to bed unhappy to be. We spent the evening trying to contact the Caretaker; leaving numerous messages, which came to absolute nothing: We wondered if he actually existed?! This was unacceptable and something that needs investigating.

Had a fabulous week with friends in this comfortable and spacious old house.

The location is spot on. Didn't use the car all week as there are plenty of wonderful walks from the door, and Reeth village green, shops. pubs, cafes are just a few steps away. There's an honesty box for parking on village green, which was fine with us. Neighbour was friendly, cooker and everything else in cottage worked fine. Beds were comfy and linen was fresh and clean, as were the towels. We brought our own larger bath towels with us. The top floor toilet/plumbing system is a macerator which makes a rumbling noise when in use, but we didn't find that a problem. It was good to have two toilets in the house, and there are 3 wash hand basins which was handy. The facilities, especially bathrooms, are a little old fashioned in parts, but clean and adequate, and I would definitely recommend this cottage and hope to book it again. All in all a very relaxed and happy experience in this spacious old house.

Beautiful, warm and spotless house with incredible views across valley.

Everything perfect, comfortable beds, well equipped kitchen but could benefit from a washing up bowl as taking washing up out to garage to use dishwasher a little tricky. Loved all the local info and maps thank you! Lovely fire and thank you for the starter pack. With views so special from lounge it would be lovely to position table in window alcove to lookout whilst eating. Wonderful garden and loved the table and chairs on terrace for morning coffee and evening drinks. Fantastic shower and so nice to have bath after long day walking on the fells. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely come back and also recommend to friends. Thank you! Reeth is a special place.

We've recently returned from a lovely week's stay at Alma House.

This was actually our third stay at the property (first since Covid!), and the fact that we keep coming back probably says something about how nice it is. The house is super comfortable and always clean and well presented (the complimentary coffee pods and biscuits were much appreciated after a long drive!) We had an issue with one of the appliances but the owner was quick to respond to our query and happy to do whatever she could to help. Perfectly situated for what we had planned, I wouldn't be surprised if we were back at Alma House for stay number 4 in the future.
