What our customers say about their holidays

First and foremost I really cannot understand some of the negative reviews around the garden not being enclosed.
We booked this house a while back before changes were made to the listing and even then it was extremely clear that the garden was not enclosed. "Dog friendly" DOES NOT and has never meant that a garden is enclosed, it just means dogs are welcome, usually subject to rules like not going on the furniture. It's up to responsible dog owners to read the information in the listing and take a view on whether their dog will be ok and/or they can make arrangements. I cannot believe the review from someone who said they left early because the garden wasn't enclosed, you've got to be pretty unintelligent to not read the listing, not look at the photos, pay the money, turn up and then say you're unhappy about something that's very clearly on the photos and in the listing. I don't actually think it's possible for fencing to be put in because there's a telegraph/electricity pylon on the drive and the owner also mows the lawn using a ride on mower so would need to be able to get in. In any case we've been travelling with our dog for 10 years and I've never seen such silly reviews about the garden not being enclosed. Even if a garden does say it's enclosed you as an owner have to make your own assessment as there's always a hole or two that the dog can find. It seems really unfair that the overall rating can be affected by these reviews. Anyway, we had an absolutely amazing time. We had been camping the week before and so had with us some fencing that we use to contain our cocker spaniel which worked perfectly for us. Other solutions available to sensible people are a stake that you can attach your dog to in the garden. You will want something because as the name suggests the house is next to the Rhosneigr train station and although there was a gate at the station you just never know. Even though we had our own fencing, we never left our dog out there alone. However, you're going to want to sit in the garden whenever the weather allows Monday-Friday to watch the planes. It really was amazing. We saw the "usual" training planes as well as F35s, Typhoons and the red arrows. I'm not even massively into planes but I found it fascinating. My husband is from an RAF family so for him it was truly amazing. We liked the house so much that we actually didn't venture far much as we didn't want to miss anything. The owner of the property obviously wants people to have a nice time. The house was spotless, beds were comfy and the TV was really really good. The kitchen was well equipped - we cooked most nights and didn't find anything we didn't have. The bathroom was modern and clean and a lovely place to have a nice bath. There's a downstairs loo and our only suggestion would be perhaps to put a sofa bed in the front sitting room and move the sofa into the living/dining room so that there's more comfy seating in there and so that people who don't/can't venture upstairs can sleep downstairs. All in all this place is fantastic and we will absolutely be back, in fact I've already checked availability for later in the year. We can't recommend this house enough.

On first look at this property it looks nice but on closer look it needs a good clean - dishwasher full of old food not been cleaned for months so I cleaned it.
Trays in oven dirty, crockery obviously washed in dishwasher so had old food stuck to it so we had to wash crockery etc before using. Downstairs playroom/bedroom smells of urine and had sweet wrappers on the floor. Freezer had not been cleaned and had a bug in it. I contacted the housekeeper Adam and sent videos but he told me to contact Charlotte and I never heard back from either of them despite sending videos. Menai contacted me and wanted to send someone to clean - this was 7 days into the holiday - what was the point when I had already cleaned. House is in need of black out blinds as light pours in when it gets light. Windows are hard to open. There was dog mess in the garden from previous occupiers I picked it up not what you want to do on your holiday. Some of the cupboards also need a clean. Given the cleaners are given extra time to clean I am not sure why the property is not clean. Very disappointed and I have not heard anything further from Menai or Sykes. We left early. Itâs such a shame because the property could be nice and because Iâve cleaned it should be nice for the next people. I suggest the cleaners look at cleaning the cupboards and getting rid of some of the oven trays and giving the dishwasher a good clean. A lot of the plug sockets donât work either and thereâs no wardrobes apart from in the bunk bed room. There is room for wardrobes so not sure why owners have not put them in.

I would not stay here again due to poor property maintenance, poor housekeeping and the property listing was not accurate (Sykes disputed this until I supplied a screenshot of the web listing).
There is a shower, but no bath. Electric cooker and fire and not gas. Property information found inside the house was incorrect as well - no access to cushions to site outside - which was disappointing as the weather was lovely. The kitchen is of a very poor standard. Dining table in the kitchen cannot comfortably sit more than four people whilst preparing and serving meals. Internal windows were filthy with handprints all over them. Laminate flooring in hallway is lifting and a trip hazard. Behind the bed had not been cleaned which was obvious as the bed was not against the wall on arrival - there was paper and dust behind it. Mattress stained brown on the side and no attempt to clean or cover it with a bed base cover. The internal doors including the wardrobe was stained with yellow marks. External door to the front of the house dirty and blackened. Grey towels provided were bleach stained. Outside door where the keysafe is located has a rusty lock which was difficult to open and close due to the rust. I would not book with Sykes or stay at this property again.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we highly recommend this for a couple or a family up to five as the property itself and garden are quiet spacious.
Local facilities are nearby as are the golf course, beach, shop, pubs and restaurants. There are not a lot of these as Rhosneigr is only a small town. We particularly enjoyed the training aircraft flying overhead from RAF Valley. We even saw a red Arrow ( only one ). The train station is obviously very nearby but trains are few and far between and quiet with hardly any at night. I recommend a visit to Newborough with a walk through the forest all the way to the lighthouse. We saw a red squirrel ( only one of these as well ). Beaumaris and on to Pen Mon isn't a long drive and we enjoyed a visit to Plas Newydd with it's gardens and view along the Menai Straits including Bridge. You can walk across country via the lake to the Oystercatcher without going through town. ( 30 mins ). We have been to about 30 different locations over the last 10 or so years. West Coast of Ireland, Cornwall, North West and East, Scotland mainland and islands and we found this property to be our favourite. Thankyou.

Stayed from the 10-8-24 for 1 week, myself , partner and 2 dogs.
Thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and would highly recommend staying here at The Station house. Hoping to return in the near future for a longer stay. Temporary fence in the store room which is easy to assemble if you have dogs , we have 2 dogs and it was never a problem letting them out in the garden. The Station House is a lovely character property in an amazing location. We enjoyed watching the trains , also the planes from RAF Valley , especially the jet planes. Rhosneigr beach 20 minute walk or a couple of minutes drive , beaches are beautiful. Golf club near by , can go in the clubhouse for a drink and food , staff very friendly. Valley not far away and trearddur bay worth a visit. Thanks to Charles and Glen Will be booking again very soon Ian , Maxine and Rocky and Rosie ( Dogs)
