Big Cottages In Ireland

Whether you’re after rolling green countryside, cosmopolitan shopping centres, a beach break or even a stay in a quaint and picturesque village, our Ireland Cottages can put you within a stone’s throw of your idea of holiday heaven. The Emerald Isle is ideal for families, with plenty of attractions to keep the little ones entertained, and perfect for couples who want to slope off and enjoy a tranquil and romantic backdrop.

Ireland’s easy enough to get to from the UK; you can catch a flight or enjoy a leisurely ferry trip. Once there, you’ll find an eclectic range of things to see and do, from a visit to the legendary Giant’s Causeway in County Antrim, or walking into Dublin’s Guinness Storehouse, before staggering back out a couple of hours later. We have Ireland Cottages in both the North and South of the country, so you might want to sort out the attractions you want to see, before booking your holiday headquarters.

Why Holiday in Ireland?

As much as Ireland offers modern amenities, such as high-end shopping centres and busy cities, the entire island is packed with ancient myths and legends. While you might want to hit the high street, be sure to take in some of the more traditional sites too, such as the limestone karst plates, known as The Burren, which attracts thousands each year not only to see the great standing stones, but to see the wildlife that has set up home there. Alternatively, hire a holiday cottage in Irelandnear Dublin and you’ll be close to the imposingly impressive St Patrick’s Cathedral.

If you’ve chosen a holiday cottage in Ireland for all the family, you’re going to need things for the kids to do. Dublin Zoo is a great place to take a walk on the wild side and your children can get up-close-and-personal with a variety of beasts such as wolves, lions and elephants. Something that always gets little ones excited is the prospect of going underground. Ireland has plenty of caves open to the public, such as the world-famous Doolin Cave and the spectacular formations on show in Dunmore Cave.

Whatever you want from your holiday, don’t forget to set some time aside for a night in a traditional Irish pub – you can’t miss out on the craic!

Our guide: UK pilgrimage routes you can walk on your next holiday includes a walking route that passes through Ireland.

We don't just have fantastic cottages in Ireland, but we also have a whole range of holiday accommodation in France and Spain.

What our customers say about their holidays

  • Eamonn - Verified booking

Arrived to a warm cottage with the heating on timer.

Very clean condition. Welcome goodies much appreciated. Cows in fields at back added to the rural feel. Property is described as ' serene escape amidst picturesque surroundings.' So was surprised to find the cottage is situated along a local road. While traffic is fairly light, this only makes the sudden explosion of noise from speeding cars all the more noticeable. At night, lights from cars turning left onto the road from the T-junction light up the property. As all the accommodation is at the front there is no escape from the noise and lights. All the walls and doors are painted white which gives the cottage a bleak feel. There is a TV on the wall in one room and a nice clock on the wall in another. Clock would be nicer if it had a battery in it. The settee and airchairs are the small, low and uncomfortable type. Having stayed in several Sykes holiday homes I found several things I took as basic missing. Placemats and coasters, radio, ironing board to go with the iron, side table for each seating area not just for one, full length mirror. The biggest item missing is a wardrobe. There's enough room in the family room for one. Hangers on wallpegs and on the back of the two bedrooms doors make the place feel untidy. The rear lawn is described as 'enclosed'. It isn't. There is nothing to stop children going from the back to the front parking and onto the road. Information pack could be improved with details of cooker and smart TV controls.

Annie's Cottage is a gem of a thatched cottage to stay in!

We recently spent two weeks in this beautiful cottage. It is ideally situated in the centre of Country Mayo, making trips to Achill Island, Mayo's north and west coasts and trips to Galway City in the next county easy to reach. It is spacious, very nicely decorated and spotlessly clean and even though we stayed in August, we had the odd chilly day but we were warm and comfortable with the underfloor heating, radiators and log burning fire. There were plenty of fresh linen and towels available and after our first week we were brought more in case they were needed. Annie's Cottage has two kitchens and both are stocked with ample pots, pans, cutlery and crockery, with plenty of storage for any shopping should you do a lot of eating in, as we do and there are two fridges, one with a large freezer. The cottage has a large, beautiful garden with table, chairs and a bbq and it was lovely sitting out in the evening catching the last of the sun with a glass of wine. The owners, Jim and Mai, are a lovely couple and live close by. They were the perfect hosts and had a welcome gift for us when we arrived and provided us with fresh eggs from their farm during our stay. We can honestly say that Annie's Cottage is the best holiday cottage we have ever stayed in and will definitely book the cottage again when we next holiday in the beautiful and scenic Country Mayo. Kate's cottage is absolutely beautiful.

It had everything anyone could possibly need for a week's holiday and more. We were made SO very welcome by the homeowner. Fresh flowers on the beautiful antique hall table were a lovely touch. Home baked scones were provided for us to have with a cuppa on our arrival. A warm fire was burning to keep off the first chills of Autumn and the house was toasty and cosy. The furniture and furnishings were of good quality. There were plenty of new towels and loo rolls in the bathroom along with a selection of toiletries in case we had forgotten ours. The bathroom/wetroom was perfect for myself. As an amputee , having the fold down shower seat was invaluable and really enhanced my stay. The beds were comfortable and we slept really well, better than we do at home! There was plenty of fuel provided daily for the open fire and log burner so we never had to worry about getting to the store to buy more. The cows and donkey were a lovely distraction for our animal loving 6yr old, who loved watching the cows playing together whilst eating her breakfast, then putting her wellies and raincoat on to run outside and talk to them over the fence. Overall this was possibly the best property that we have rented in Ireland and we have had many rental cottages over the past 20+ years.

The photo on the website does not reflect the current state if the property which I will describe as tired.

More importantly, it does not show the derelict outhouse/barn?? adjacent to the property which, whilst an eyesore, more importantly needs to be managed. The corrugated roof gas collapsed in large sections, but some panels remain and are very loose. During windy conditions, these flapped around and constantly banged. This disturbed us during the evening and nights, but also concerned us about possible damage should they break and get caught by the wind. The kitchen had plenty of crockery and cutlery, but would benefit from a refresh of the cooking equipment, pots and pans. Sofas were comfortable, but tired (well used). Beds were comfortable. In looking for an electric socket by the bedside to charge our phones at night, the extension lead which was actually a surface mounted double socket lying on the floor under the bed was completely shattered, exposing the internal wiring. This had the bedside lights connected, but clearly unsafe for clients to use. The downstairs loo had no lights, so could not be used when dark. Whilst we were met by the owner on arrival and given a tour of the property, there was no house book that we could find for instructions. Overall, a disappointing stay.

I booked this property for my parents (in their 70's), they had the most super trip to this cottage and absolutely loved their stay.

Everything was just what they needed - the walk in shower, ground level accommodation and easy access was just perfect. This property is absolutely ideal for a larger group/family as well. The hosts are so very welcoming and we really appreciated all the help and for being so attentive. It was home from home type accommodation. I really could not recommend this property highly enough. The welcome and attention to detail is superb. This is also a super area for exploring Mayo, there are many day trips in easy distance, there are numerous drives around the coastline and Wild Atlantic Way and you will not be disappointed with the scenery and splendid views around Mayo. There are some super spots for dining and entertainment in the nearby towns, whilst also being able to come back to a lovely homely nest in the evening with complete peace and tranquility. This is one of the best houses to book in the area and I challenge anyone to find anything but perfection here at Annie's Cottage. Please book without hesitation. You will not be disappointed!
