What our customers say about their holidays

Spent the first 3 hours cleaning.
The en suite shower had disgusting black mould round all the seals and edges and shower itself. As the bathroom only had a hand held shower we could not use that one for proper showers, and the bath fittings were all rusty so baths were not possible either. The toilet brush in the main bathroom was unspeakable and unusable. The double bed looked clean but smelled terrible and stripping the sheets revealed black mould on the pillows and mattress. Presumably this had resulted from the en suite shower room getting steamy and that steam going into the bedroom as it did get steamy very easily. The double bedroom itself felt damp but we used the little portable heater to try to get it to feel less unpleasant in there which helped. It was also a shame the previous occupants had left overflowing bins so we could not dispose of the recycling/rubbish properly for days. All that said, if the cleanliness is addressed, and the bedding replaced, we would stay again. Except the bathrooms, the property was very clean, not a speck of dust or cobwebs anywhere. It was a good size, with a lovely garden. The conservatory was perfect for hanging up the beach towels on the clothes airer when it was raining but the washing line was great for other days. Loved having a good sized dining table for family meals and board games. Very impressed with kitchen facilities and equipment. The front porch was a wonderful area to keep buckets and spades etc. in - just what you need on holiday! The single room is huge and the twin room also a good size and all 3 of those beds very comfy. Both those rooms were great. Sofa is very comfy. Owners left clear instructions for things like bin day and how to use facilities which was helpful. WiFi was iffy so for anyone desperate to stream, it should be noted that's not always possible and even if it starts you may have interruptions several times an hour. Getting to watch a film is unlikely. Hence us playing board games in the evenings which we prefer anyway. Parking on the road was easy but not right outside the property as it's on a corner but we put our second car in front of the first one on the driveway which is to the side. You cannot safely walk from the property with kids as there is no footpath once you get to the edge of the estate, but if you have a car it's a short drive to places like Woolacombe. Just be prepared to drive everywhere for safety.

We loved our all-too-short stay but hope to return as a group next year.
Everything was spot on. The only glitch was that some of us were rather chilly one night, which the owner thought was because the previous people had been too hot and turned down the radiators or thermostat. Oh, and the turn off down to the house is a bit hairy: a sudden turn off (very easy to miss) and then very narrow and bumpy. You pray not to meet another car. But it's lovely to be able to just walk down the path to the seafront. No car needed! I have only given the grade 5 recommendation because that relates to Sykes Cottages, who were rather opaque and obstructive about the possibility of an earlier arrival (the stated time of 5pm is quite late). When I contacted the owner directly she was very obliging and helpful, and in direct contradiction to what SC had told me, said she often negotiated earlier arrivals via SC especially out of season. They had said to me, and I quote, that 'it was their policy never to contact the owners about early check ins'. So I was left feeling pretty annoyed about that. But as I said, the house and location are lovely, as is the owner. Sykes, not so brilliant.

What a place!
! Surf View was pretty much the perfect location for our reunion of 7 old school friends. The house was easy to find with the extra detail provided by Sarah, who was also super responsive and accommodating to our enquiry about getting in a little early. The house layout is so spacious and comfortable, and beautifully decorated with art and funky details like the lighthouse lamp. The eating and lounge areas in particular had lots of room so we didn't have to be clustered together. We were particularly impressed with every bedroom having en-suite facilities. The kitchen was well equipped so we could cook easily at home, though we also had a very good meal at the Watersmeet Hotel. We walked down to the beach each day, and also found our way to the National Trust walking route which goes up and across the neighbouring hill. A good path most of the way - other than the exceptionally wet section at the beginning section after Storm Ashley! All in all, we had a wonderful time -this was the best place we've ever stayed and we're planning a repeat visit next year.

We had a fantastic time at Surf View.
The 7 on suite bedrooms meant no queuing for showers in the morning. The facilities and kitchen were great. Plenty of outside space for parking. Barbequed most nights. The beach is a short 15 minute walk, or a 5 minute drive into Woolacombe. The vast beach is excellent for children, with a very shallow slope. Surfing, paddle boarding etc. The fish & chip shop in Morthoe will prepare and sell fish for the barbeque, excellent. We had a 19 month old child with us and the property had loads of space for him to wander about, supervised of course. Surf View is a very sociable place to stay for family gatherings, we all had an amazing time and would recommend this place to anyone. We talked to people in the caravan park next door and they paid £700 for a caravan for the week, 3 groups, 3 caravans. I gave them Surf Views details. Surf view was good value for money.

Numerous positivies, too many to list.
This is a 5 star property for sure, and the advert was very accurate. The beds were reasonably comfortable, the decor nice, floors lovely and solid, oven was great to use, dishwasher great, garden lovely (with a distant sea view not mentioned). List goes on. Having said that and being very picky, there were two very minor negatives which could easily have made our stay just that bit better. 1. A seperate tumble drier or washing machine with a tumble drier option. Although the washing line was adequate, weather is not always good and sometimes you need things dried yesterday! 2. A smart TV. The one installed was quite old and had no app functionality, I.E. No Youtube or Netflix. I suggest you take your own USB stick. People often ask why you need a TV on holiday, but those couple of hours in the evening are helpful with kids.
