What our customers say about their holidays

Firstly ! I DONT want to take anything away from this beautiful house and our enjoyment of it BUT sadly I do have to start with a bit of the not so good stuff !
. I had noticed on an review from SEPT 18 that a guest had encountered some issues on arrival with the key safe and contact numbers for the given caretaker company - so enough time you would have thought to sort that ? HOWEVER it took us over an hour to get into the house - the key safe is now redundant yet we were advised it housed the keys - entry is now gained from a KEY PAD which is located behind you when you arrive and look for a KEY SAFE !!. NO mention of a KEY PAD at all or its location which once you find it and understand what it maybe it is obvious BUT keep in mind you are directed to a KEY SAFE ? . Then we were also left with our car blocking the lane because we hadn't been given the gate code for entry - so we automatically became unpopular to neighbours who couldn't pass and we couldn't get off the lane - no mention anywhere of a gate release inside the grounds !! WORST OF ALL was the phone call to the caretaker who abruptly said we aren't the caretakers and haven't been for months and that they were fed up of being called - they couldn't or didn't want to help - we then had to call Sykes who even at 17.30hrs on a dark Saturday night thankfully answered and tried to assist but couldn't really offer anymore information other than now offer a gate code so we could move the car off the lane THANK YOU for Sykes for at least being there and ringing me back several times until after a process of elimination and head scratching we worked out it WASN'T a KEY SAFE we needed but a KEY PAD approx. 3in x 3in on an opposite wall ALL of this is important to mention regardless of what has been paid BUT even more annoying when you have paid for the DEAREST WEEK of the year XMAS and paid double what you can expect to pay in the height of Summer - VERY DISAPPOINTING REALLY HOWEVER - we SIMPLY love the place it is truly fantastic and we felt as if we belonged there DISPITE ALL of the above we had a FANTASTIC time in this beautiful home in a beautiful area - EVERYTHING we expected to enjoy from this house we did and the owners should be proud to own such a lovely home that they are prepared to share with paying guests SO - PLEASE PLEASE sort out these arrival issues and provide the correct details inc current caretakers etc to avoid this We arrived in the dark on a Winters evening having travelled for 6 hours we didn't need that !! We hope to re-visit in the Summer and again make the most of this GEM I deliberated about this review and how NOT to record a POOR review and I hope I have done that but our initial arrival issues had to be mentioned because it DID cause some level of stress I really thought we were going to have to find a hotel that night BEAUTIFUL HOME though !! Riverside House is a fantastic holiday cottage with wonderful accommodation and a great setting. I travel extensively and I can say without a shadow of doubt that Riverside House is as good, if not better than any other holiday accommodation I’ve ever stayed in. Every consideration and detail has been thought of both inside and outside with very little expense spared on fixtures and fittings. The kitchen is wonderfully well equipped, the lounge / dining area is extremely comfortable and the bedrooms are a good size with comfy beds. Both bathrooms are new and add a touch of luxury. We particularly enjoyed the tri-fold windows from the lounge to the outside seating area. The added bonus of a summerhouse overlooking the river in an additional area of garden is a lovely place to watch the sun set. We stayed immediately after lock down relaxed and safety / hygiene is well catered for. The place was spotless! We also travelled in our mid-life crisis car, aka a 2 seater convertible, and found the electric garage door and space for the car was terrific. We used the kayaks a few times and the barbecue extensively. Would we return? - definitely and we may even bring the kids with us next time. Thank you for sharing your beautiful house with us.

With excitement we arrived and set foot through the door. Immediately we knew it was all we had wished for. The sun shone all the week as we went from coast to coast. Thurlestone was the beach that we all adored the most. The Gara Rock hotel for dinner was divine. East Portlemouth for coffee really was sublime. The Globe is everything a local pub should be. Great food, fun staff and a short hop for your tea. The Millbrook is a joy and the food not to be missed. Sundowners on the terrace - just moments of sheer bliss. Paddling on the creed and cooking up a feast. The plancha is so easy for the farm shop meaty treats. Bigbury On Sea is the perfect place to swim. And don't forget to try the Bonkers East Prawle Pig's Nose Inn! Torcross, Slapton, Blackpool in the sunshine, such a treat. The water is so clear that you could be down in Greece! The house is something special and we simply couldn't find A single thing the owners had not brought to mind. All in all a special time was had by all the fam. We hope for you the same - Love Caro, Andy, Anne

A delightful and immaculate property, the cleanest I've stayed in, and a pleasure to spend a week there.
The only very minor points are the lack of a welcome basket of local produce/pint of milk , common in similar properties run by the same company, and previously mentioned by other holidaymakers. In fact in this place there IS a basket, but it's tantalisingly empty - despite the sticker on a cupboard reminding them to supply biscuits! Also it was good to have all of the appliances' manuals but we couldn't find the one for the washing machine anywhere - but worked it out for ourselves. Plus, the wardrobe in the main front bedroom had a couple of very loose doorknobs on it - both of which fell off. Finally, the rubbish collection system here has some very specific instructions involving a private company collecting the rubbish early on the day of check-out , which was good to know, so we placed our black bin bags in the numbered wheelie bin which had been left just at the top of the drive but didn't see anyone collect anything.

What an amazing house! Love, love, loved it! We brought our own kayaks & gear and enjoyed the ease of just walking them out of the garage and down the short slope to the water. We went for a paddle almost everyday. We had sunshine pretty much all week so also enjoyed the deck, but also spent our afternoon reading in the summer house away from the rest of the world. Everything is so comfy - the snug carpet for my pilates mat, beds & settees all lovely - and well thought out with sockets all over the place. The new cafe by the bridge is great for coffees and their quiches for lunchtime were superb. Best day out definitely Holne Woods, with a walk & picnic by the river watching the locals swim. The house is spotlessly clean too, quite a feat with so much to dust. Thank you for your hospitality.
