What our customers say about their holidays

We had a great girls week at Chapel Cottage.
The cottage is a longer walk from the beach than we had imagined, and the road down is very narrow, but a great location, next to the Old Smithy Inn, a few hundred yards away. We went for a meal there on our first night there, but unfortunately, we think they forgot our order, and we waited 1hr 15min for the food to come, but it was delicious when it came. We went back on the Thursday evening for their Folk Night, which was wonderful, and great end to our weeks holiday. Unfortunately, the rusty pub sign was right outside my bedroom window, and made the most incredible squeaking noise when the wind blew, so some nights I really struggled to get off to sleep. The cottage is very well equipped, with plenty of saucepans, cutlery & crockery etc. Dish washer tablets, dish clothes, oven gloves & 1 tea towel were provided, and there was nothing we needed that wasn't there. Beds were very comfortable, and lovely bedding, though apparently the front double bed was very creaky when you turned over! LOL Plenty of books, games, DVD's etc to borrow, with the front room being very cosy on a VERY cold June night!!! The only disappointment, was with the small garden, the grass was overgrow, and badly needed mowing, and the flower borders were very overgrown, all be it with lovely shrubs etc. The cast iron chairs & cushions have seen better days too. We visited Morwenstow, where is the most delightful Tea Rooms at The Old Rectory. Bude was another great find, and had amazing fish & chips at Life's a Beach, on Summerleaze Beach, and browsed the shops in the town. Widemouth Bay, Crackington Haven & Clovelly are also well worth a visit. We had 2 amazing meals at The New Inn in Kilkhampton, which is the closest village to the cottage, the Sunday lunch is to die for, and so reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone,& would be happy to make a return visit, but would hope that the garden had been sorted and the pub sign tied up to stop it being so annoying!

Light House is a wonderful place with stunning views.
The moment we walked through the door we were blown away. It was so thoughtfully decorated with no expense spared. It was really nice to have a pint of milk, fresh scones, jam and clotted cream (in fridge) there waiting for us.. We spent time in the lower garden taking in the ever changing views. I have to say that we are missing it already. We had a lovely evening meal out in the Flame Factory and breakfast in the Coffee Cabin. The Seagate was also a great place for an evening out. We drove to Torrington and hired bikes and had a lovely afternoon cycling to Instow (having lunch at the Instow Arms) and back. Appledore is a lovely place to holiday and the Light House was the perfect accommodation. This holiday was the best and calmest we have had so far with our 16 year old Autistic son. We hope we will be able to return sometime in the future. A few small things we feel need attention are the fridge which is very small and the freezer compartment was very frosted up and I think the door to it was broken. This resulted in the fridge door not closing properly. The barbecue really could do with updating as it is very rusty and looked pretty grim/dirty. We did however clean the area we cook on and did use it. It cooked the food well. While having the BBQ we did notice that the only tongs we could find in the kitchen kept falling apart so we had to just use a fork to turn over the meat. Thankyou to Lisa for great communication to my questions prior to the holiday.

We have just returned from a superb relaxing stay at The Lighthouse.
We arrived late after a long journey, it was so welcoming to step into a warm relaxing home. The lights were twinkling across the estuary; day and night the view was sublime. There was a notification on the website of building work possibly limiting the view. Ignore that, the building is almost complete and is low level and discrete, we didn't give it another thought. This is a beautiful place to stay and the beds were like sleeping on clouds, soo comfortable. The cottage was well equipped and tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean and with a welcoming cream tea awaiting us. Our agenda was mainly to relax, with some sightseeing. The lighthouse is an ideal base. We had leisurely breakfasts in the well equipped kitchen overlooking the calming waters of the estuary, watching the changing tides and small boats. Easy access to all areas of Devon, we visited Illfracombe, Woolacombe, Bideford (good for supermarket shopping) Barnstaple and the jewel of Devon, Clovelly. Appledore itself is a traditional fishing village, the quayside and market street shops are quaint, compact and offers everything you could need, we particularly recommend Sylvester's Fish & Chips on Market Street... The chocolate shop opposite was an ideal distraction while waiting for fresh fish to be cooked. We highly recommend The Lighthouse and many thanks to the owners Lisa and Steve, for sharing this gem.

This cottage was so dirty that at 8pm on arrival I had to get the vacuum out.
Dog hair everywhere and sofas that hadnât been moved for heavens knows how long. Having a small child with us we couldnât allow him to play without that clean. Please note this cottage isnât suitable for children much under five as there is no fire screen, no stair gates and no lock on the door where chemicals are kept. The rubbish bin outside was full of previous uncollected waste, bin bag left beside the bin had been scavenged by seagulls so a major clean up needed. We got rid of all the excess waste but something needs to happen that isnât dumped black bags by the bin. The description of where to put used linens and towels isnât accurate as the bin bags equalled two and it wouldnât all go in bad the shed where it was to go was locked and no key fitted the lock. We took it off and bagged what we could and left the rest tidily. Clovelly and the surrounding area I would recommend to anyone, friendly, peaceful and within easy reach of a good beach. Plenty to do for children to keep them out of an unsuitable cottage. The weather fortunately was very kind so we were able to spend all day, every day out and doing. Recommend the Big Sheep for anyone with children. Exmoor Zoo although a bit further if you donât know the short cuts ( we do we lived here for 30 years) is as good as many much larger, better known zoos.
