  Gail was friendly and welcoming upon arrival.

  She gladly showed us around the property and explained how everything worked and where everything was. The property was immaculate and spotlessly clean, and all the finishing touches were completed to a very high standard, including a specially prepared Easter hamper and home made lemon drizzle cake that all went down a treat. Nothing was too much trouble for Gail and Phil throughout our stay, and they were extremely attentive to our needs. Butterwell Barn was a perfect retreat for all 9 of us (including our Greyhound), and provided us with everything we needed for the duration of our stay. Dartmouth Town Centre is a short drive away, and The Sportsman's Arms and local garden centre is only 5 minutes away by car in the opposite direction, where you can enjoy wonderful home cooked food and a selection of ales in the pub, or a hearty breakfast or afternoon Devon Tea in the garden centre. The only blot on our stay was the malfunctioning outdoor lights that prevented us from enjoying the fire pit to its fullest during the evenings, and made it somewhat difficult navigating the steps and outdoor areas in the dark of night. The recent wet weather caused the consumer unit to repeatedly trip, so outside lights were not working throughout our time at Butterwell Barn. An additional consideration would be the lack of a garden area for relaxing in during the summer months, or for children to play in, as the land surrounding the barn is predominantly stone, and the surrounding fields are farmland. That said, the facilities inside the barn, and the first class renovation made for a wonderful holiday for all in our party. Thanks Gail.

  Butterwell Barn provided everything we needed to ensure we experienced a lovely family holiday.

  It was surrounded by glorious countryside and located close to Darmouth with other nice places to visit fairly near by. The entrance to the property which is on a busy winding road needed to be more distinguishable as we passed it on several occasions when returning to it. On arrival, it was easier to spot the entrance as the owners kindly placed two red children's windmills locating the entrance and when they were removed, it was harder to judge ahead. This recommendation has been passed on to the owners. Must add, the actual property is set back down a lane so is very private and no concerns regarding any traffic. Due to not being able to get into the property until 5.00 p.m., we basically lost a good part of the day in the property, but appreciate COVID19 has an impact on cleaning the property. The owners did allow us to drop off our luggage which was greatly appreciated, but when you have perishable foods and travelling a good distance, it was a concern. I would therefore suggest a day 'down time' between bookings to enable families to arrive much earlier in the day to settle in and start their family holiday especially when you have very young children. We really appreciated the welcome basket which had fresh scones, eggs, jam, clotted cream and fruit juice and the owners were thoughtful enough to recognise a special birthday by leaving a card and a beautiful bouquet of flowers. This was a lovely thoughtful touch! We would definitely recommend visiting this property as overall, it ticked all our boxes. When the weather is sunny and warm, it is even nicer! Thank you!

  We recently spent a fantastic week at Butterwell Barns in Dartmouth, and it was truly a luxurious escape.

  The barn itself was stunning—beautifully designed, spotlessly clean, and equipped with every amenity we could possibly need. The attention to detail was remarkable, making our stay comfortable and stress-free. The outdoor area was a highlight, offering lovely views over the picturesque countryside. We made the most of the BBQ and fire pit, spending our evenings toasting marshmallows and soaking in the serene surroundings. Our dog was also in heaven, enjoying the fully enclosed outdoor space without a care in the world—this place is incredibly dog-friendly! The location was perfect, just a short distance from the Dartmouth ring and ride, making it easy to explore the area. On arrival, we were delighted to find a generous welcome package waiting for us, complete with fresh eggs, jam, homemade scones, and a delicious lemon drizzle cake that we couldn't get enough of. Throughout our stay, we felt wonderfully supported by the owner, Gail, who checked in to ensure everything was going smoothly. Her warmth and hospitality added a personal touch that made our experience even more special. In short, Butterwell Barns provided a perfect family getaway. Every member of our group, including our furry friend, had an unforgettable time. We can't wait to return!

  The most beautiful place we have ever stayed in.

  Such high quality layout, fixtures and fittings and contents. Such attention to detail and every little thing had been thought of. Lovely quiet location, plenty of parking, comfy beds, great showers and so much space even for 8 adults! Very dog friendly with a built in stair gate, enclosed grass area and even dog towels. As upside down living, was good to also have a toilet on the living area for those less mobile, something we haven’t had in similar layouts. We were so impressed with the barn, we booked within 48 hours of arriving for next Christmas! Lovely owners too, we had a nightmare journey and my daughter had arrived separately by train so they took her to the local supermarket for her to get some supplies, so kind. Would also recommend the Sportsman's Arms a few mins drive, great home cooked food - they do a fab roast everyday - and dog friendly. Worth booking though as gets busy. Dartmouth and Salcombe both close by and worth a visit. I doubt we will ever book anywhere else now when visiting this part of the U.K.

  How to describe our stay in one word ?

  FAB-U-LOUS? Butterwell Barn was simply amazing , from the very start receiving an extremely warm welcome from Gail ( and delicious baked goodies ) to a heartfelt goodbye from Gail, Phil and their little doggie. We took advantage of everything this luxury Barn had to offer, family meals made together in the most wonderful kitchen with every gadget and gizmo you would expect to find in a professional kitchen, BBQs on the terrace , late night sun downers around the outdoor table and fire pit , gin cocktails mixed with the amazing selection of herbs in the garden was a delight ! The bedrooms ( all en-suite) were spotless , the beds very comfortable and the linen and towels top notch hotel grade. We booked Butterwell to spend time with our busy family and the open plan living made this a dream , movie nights , quiz nights , etc , quality time was made easy . Gail has left no stone unturned at Butterwell , this place has it all . If you expect high standards then this is a must for you and the family. Well done Gail & Phil !
