What our customers say about their holidays
Mr Chitty - Verified booking
We had a lovely relaxing week at Higher Court and we were lucky to be the first guests to stay at the property. We found that the communication and hospitality from the owner was excellent, with some thoughtful goodies provided for us on our arrival. The information pack was comprehensive and detailed, covering the history of the building, the local area and suggestions of places to visit. The property itself was finished to a very high standard, with a well equipped kitchen, lovely bathrooms and everything you could possibly need. The property is on a working farm but this didn’t interfere in any way with our stay and we liked seeing the various animals who live there, including the roaming ducks and chickens who were of great interest to our dog as she watched them from the upstairs window! The garden was a good size and our dog enjoyed exploring and watching the visiting rabbits in the morning, and if you’re lucky enough in the evenings, you might see a bat fly over. The lanes surrounding the property are narrow however they are extremely quiet and we had no problems with traffic coming the other way so don’t be put off by this.

Our holiday, staying in Beckside Cottage has been one of our best.
On arrival we were delighted to walk into a warm kitchen and the first thing that we saw was a huge WELCOME sign on the shelf. We appreciated the ownerâs visit next morning, to make sure everything was okay, and that we had everything we needed. Our stay was in March so the warmth of this cottage was much appreciated. There was a lovely log burner in the sitting room which we never needed to light. Beckside is comfortably furnished with all facilities that we needed. There is no dishwasher but we never use one anyway!! The beds were clean and very comfortable. We had taken our own pillows due to Covid. The garden is enclosed and on the edge of woodland. We put bird food out which encouraged birds to come to the wall. A bird table might be a good addition. Walking in the area is good with fabulous views from the tops. Kirkby Lonsdale, three miles away, is a lovely little town with many interesting historic features, individual shops, a couple of dog friendly cafes, and a weekly market. Donât miss the ice cream shop!

Beckside cottage is a lovely cosy cottage in a beautiful part of the world.
The instructions on how to find it we're easy to follow and it was lovely and warm when we first entered. The kitchen is well equipped and a we had everything left to make a fire in the magnificent fireplace. We all loved snuggling up in front of it a night. The only downside and the thing that didn't make this holiday perfect was the bed in the panelled room. I have never had such an uncomfortable sleep. It was like sleeping on a stone bench it was that hard and the duvet just seems so small. Also instructions on how to advance the heating would have been helpful as we had to stay in till late ish one day as my daughter was unwell and it was freezing. All in all we still enjoyed it and hope to return to kirkby Lonsdale as it was such a pretty town and had such lovely people while not being too crammed. It's a good base for both the lakes and the dales.

was a lovely host and we really appreciated the welcome package with eggs, bacon, bread and a homemade cake. The cottage is very clean and nicely appointed, having a washer and dryer proved very useful. The location is very peaceful and we really enjoyed the silence and just hearing the sound of birds and the rustling of the trees. The countryside is also very inviting to do some walks along the country lanes. South Molton is a brisk walk away and offers nice tea rooms and small shops. The market twice a week is also a nice place to visit and for all other necessities there is a Sainsbury’s in town which we found to be well stocked. I can highly recommend this cottage and they are adding a games room on the farmyard which will be a nice addition.

Lovely old cottage situated right in the countryside but not too far to drive to Kirkby Lonsdale and Sedbergh.
As the cottage was in the countryside the 'road' as expected was mainly single track which might not be suitable for everyone. The cottage had majority of what we expected but we did take a few kitchen items with us as we were going to be eating in every day and from previous cottage holidays we had some idea what might not be available (lasagne dish and large casserole dish), but the kitchen was well equipped. Lovely lounge to relax in with a log burner for cosy evenings. Excellent shower. Ample parking space and a small enclosed garden with furniture. Ideal location for walking and cycling, with lovely countryside to explore. Nothing was too much trouble for Angie and Mal and we would definitely consider coming back again.
