We had a very enjoyable stay in Walton Cottage, very friendly, helpful hosts.Good location for exploring south Derbyshire.Barton Marina is 5 minutes drive away, has excellent restaurants, (The Waterside Thai is superb) retail shops, butchers/deli and a picture house.Mercia Marina is also nearby, where we enjoyed a narrowboat trip along the canal (booking ahead recommended) The Swan Inn is a few minutes walk from Walton Cottage, perfect way to end the day with a nice meal and drink or two. Food is excellent, as are the beverage choices.Would also recommend the China Rice takeaway.which is also nearby.All in all a very pleasant stay, thank you Alison and Simon for making us feel so welcome.

We found Walton Cottage a great base to explore the Derbyshire/Staffordshire area for a week. The cottage is well equiped with a large family kitchen including a freezer and washing machine which were really useful. Our dogs were made to feel very welcome and enjoyed spending time in the enclosed garden. The Swan pub is just around the corner with a great atmosphere and menu served everyday. We enjoyed visiting Roliston Forestry Centre, Barton Marina, Branston Water Park, Moira Furnace and Donisthorpe Woodland Park, all within 10 miles. We also had a lovely day in Dovedale and went on a Monday when it was quieter.

I would recommend they buy a couple of fans for comfort in the heat. They should mount a toilet roll holder as my young granddaughter struggled picking up the roll from the floor. Should explain the refrigerator. I found out by accident that you can't lay milk down as it leaks. Then found a holder in the bottom. There was nice things to do and the playground close by was a big hit.
