If outdoor adventure is your love, there are plenty of places for cycling, walking and climbing as you’re surrounded by some spectacular scenery, including designated routes around Latrigg and Catbells. Nearby you’ll find Helvellyn, Skiddaw and Blencathra to name a few. You can easily walk into the centre of Keswick and leave the car behind, from the front door you are just 5 minutes’ walk into the main market square. Keswick is a vibrant town with a great outdoor market and plenty of places to eat and drink. Its bustling centre has an abundance of quality restaurants, pubs serving local cask ales, independent shops and the obligatory outdoor and fashion brands. There are a host of delis, bakeries, coffee shops and local craft stalls. Famous for its narrow streets and courtyards this traditional market town is one not to be missed.
If you like culture, check out the Theatre By The Lake with award-winning arts and drama on the banks of Derwentwater, where you can hire a rowing boat. For family fun why not try Puzzling Place, a mind boggling attraction based on optical illusions or the Derwent Pencil Museum, home to the largest pencil in the world. For a really wild day out, try The Lake District Wildlife Park at Bassenthwaite, 8½ miles, or The Lakes Distillery offering daily tasting and tours, 8 miles away. If you fancy a round of golf, Keswick Golf Club is just 4¾ miles. For your next Cumbrian adventure, Skiddaw House could be just what you’ve been looking for. Beach 21½ miles. Really great holiday. Two families staying to catch up, and had been concerned after reading other reviews. Needn’t have been. The house was super. Easy walk into town, or down to the lake. Had everything we needed for a lovely weekend break.Decor a bit tired perhaps but given the price this was expected and with children isn’t something that was important to us.

Good pick for a short break if you have a large family. Parking was difficult so we parked in the lake side car park - quite expensive but saves trawling the streets for a space.

We found that the kitchen smelled of grease , if you opened the cooker hood when using the hob there was a greasy smell , also had to wash the baking trays before we used them as they were greasy and dirty , shower in downstairs bathroom didn’t really work very well , furniture was dated with seven odd chairs around the dining table , stairs up to the 2nd floor were steep and uneven as was the 2nd floor bedroom floors , only good thing was that there was plenty of hot water .
