Welney is a small village on the border of Norfolk and Cambridgeshire. Welney sits on the edge of The Fens with an attractive local pub. The area surrounding Welney is low lying and is home to the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (WWT) reserve in the Ouse Washes. The reserve is the winter home of thousands of swans and ducks from northern Europe and the Arctic. Also close by is the rspb reserve at Ouse Washes which has walks across the wet grasslands. The historic city of Ely is just a short drive away and is home to Ely’s beautiful cathedral with its unique Octagonal tower. Visit Oliver Cromwell’s house where you can step back in time and see how his family would have lived in the mid 17th century, or visit Ely Museum, housed in the city’s old gaol. Ely also offers a beautiful waterside area on the River Great Ouse where you can enjoy relaxing boat trips, leisurely riverside walks, explore the antique shops, or visit the Babylon Art Gallery.
