Once part of Millom’s Police Station and Magistrates’ Court, The Old Court House is a place in which anyone would want to spend a lengthy stretch. The owners have furnished this recent conversion to a good standard, with plenty of space for all to relax and enjoy your time on holiday here.
From the private entrance, enter into the handy vestibule area, with space for muddy walking boots and jackets, leading through to the spacious living room with comfy sofas, large Smart TV and high vaulted ceiling, the ideal space for a family movie night in. Just off from here are the comfortable ground floor bedrooms, comprising a kingsize bedroom and a large bedroom with three single beds, all sure to provide a good night’s sleep. Wake up revived and refreshed in the family shower room. From the living room is a staircase that leads to the galleried area on the first floor. Here is a second smaller seating area, a large dining table that comfortably seats all, and a well-equipped kitchen to make the most of those family meal times.
Millom itself is a small coastal town situated on the fringe of the Lake District National Park, with a range of shops, pubs and takeaways. The nearby supermarket is a short walk of a few hundred yards. For families, the nearby village of Haverigg boasts beaches and a children’s adventure play area, be sure to take an evening stroll as the sun sets, you will not be disappointed. Nature lovers will enjoy rspb Hodbarrow Nature Reserve, a coastal lagoon with grasslands, located on the site of a former iron mine. Here you can spot terns, ringed plovers, redshanks and oystercatchers, be sure to bring your binoculars. Port Haverigg Watersports is Cumbria’s Premier Watersports Centre, situated on a purpose built, freshwater lake, where you can take to the water with a paddleboard (available to hire), enjoy wakeboarding, waterskiing, kneeboarding, rides on the banana boats, and the brand new Aqua Park which includes a series of inflatable slides and climbing frames moored out in the lake. Situated in the Whicham Valley, Cumbrian Heavy Horses is suitable for riders of varying ability, with steadier rides and mounts for the nervous novice, and those more experienced can enjoy a trek along the foothills of Black and White Combe, a most spectacular scenic day out riding. There is also golf nearby. Beach 1 mile. Shop, pub and restaurant 250 yards.

The Rear Emergency Only Fire Exit door opens onto an internal yard which is owned by other properties within the building and therefore to respect our neighbours’ privacy this door should NOT be opened at any other time. We, and guests of the property, only have a right of access through the internal yard in the case of fire/emergency to vacate the building via the rear.

The Old Court house was excellent very comfortable and clean it had everything you needed we could not have asked for more. We had a lovely stay, there were nice villages close by we visited Muncaster Castle which was excellent and Coniston was really nice by the lake and we had a good day at Sizebrgh national trust. We would recommend da Vinci Italian restaurant lovely food and nice people we also had a nice meal at King William IV

What a unique and charismatic place to stay! A converted old court house, it retains a whiff of the grandeur through a sensitive conversion which encompasses the history of the building. Perfect for family or friends, the kitchen dinner mezzanine is a real focal point and there is plenty of space for 5 people. It is clean, well thought out, and a great place to make your home for at least a few days. One downside for me, noting not the property, is the location. There are some beautiful places to explore nearby such as the coastline and Black Combe - but Millom itself doesn't have too much going for it, and i found myself going further afield to find different places to eat. If you are also keen on the more walked trails in the Lake District, you will find yourself driving 45mins - 1hr to those well trodden places such as Ambleside and Rydall. If you want a quieter experience away from those areas and a gateway to the lesser trodden South West and West Lakes, it's a good location. All in all, thank you for a lovely stay!

This was the cleanest most equipped house I have ever stayed in. The bed was so comfortable, perfectly located for exploring the Lake District and beaches, the local town is limited although there is a Tesco 2mins walk away , we loved our stay here and were sad to leave.
