This is a lovely house but in desperate need of TLC. The owner has been badly let down by his cleaners, who left cobwebs and dust in the bedrooms, lounge and utility room. I have been in touch to let him know, with pictures, how we found it.It has so much potential. The rooms are a good size and the walk in shower is particularly good for those who cannot step into or out of a bath. The kitchen is well stocked with itensils and crockery and the cups or rather mugs were of a decent size for a cuppa but we did not get a welcome pack. This was not an issue because we stopped off and picked up the necessaries before we arrived. There is a washing machine and tumble dryer but we had to unblock the fluff vent which had been forced in backwards and was jammed. After that it was fine. There was an issue with the electric radiators ( there is no gas) which did not come on at all. We could not find the master switch and so, in the evening, the only warmth was in the lounge, which was not a major problem apart from one very wet day, courtesy of Storm Amy, when everything seemed to be damp. The lack of heat meant that the towels had to be tumbled every day to dry them. This would not be an issue on the warmer days. There is sports equipment, board games, books and cards and unusually, musical instruments all in the house and so every weather eventuality has been catered for by the owner. The driveway is very tight for post 1950's cars ( the neighbour's words not mine) and the wing mirrors have to be closed unless you want to lose them each time you drive in or out, but will easily accommodate 2 cars. You do need to be careful emerging from the drive because people park literally to the edge of the white lines and make it very difficult to do anything but edge out very slowly into what can, at times, be a bit of a rat run for the locals. The area is excellent, a short 15 minute walk to the centre of Cowes or 10 minutes to the beach (but beware of the steep climb back up) and less than 5 minutes to a lovely park. The chain ferry (left turn at the Mazda garage in Cowes and left at the roundabout by Waitrose when you come off the Red Funnel ferry in East Cowes) is a godsend, saving 30 minutes and 11 miles going into and out of Newport to get to the otherside of East Cowes and means Osbourne house is only 15 minutes away. Cowes itself has excellent boutique shops and bars and cafes, particularly the Anchor which has superb food. The Dairyman's Daughter at Atterton on the way to Ryde (and Asda) is one of the best pubs for food and has a huge menu. It is in the middle of the craft centre with leather, glass, a silversmith and old fashioned sweet shop to name our favourites. Oh and very sadly, the Christmas shop at Ryde has to have a shout for unusual Xmas decorations.Nothing is more than 45 minutes away, even the other side of the island, including Yarmouth and the Needles.Once the issues mentioned have been rectified, this will be a wonderful place to return to.

Good size house and garden ideally located for Cowes town centre, although down a steep road. Agree with comments raised by a previous review in so far as the house was obviously a lovely family home, but now tired and in need of decoration and a good spring clean. Living room sofas need replacing as were very uncomfortable. Heating was provided but was insufficient for a large house. Electric fan heaters in bathroom and living room were fine but electric panel heaters in bedrooms, landing and dining room/ kitchen did not work and appeared to be controlled by Tapo devices and labelled DO NOT UNPLUG. TV required 3separate remote controllers to operate and better instructions are needed. Also, the bbq was a health hazard, rusty and fit only for the dump. A feature was also a ‘’Welcome Pack’’ ……….which we didn’t receive, unless you count a dozen out of date single shot milk sachets left in the fridge……..! We contacted the owner to advise of problems with heating, the TV and absence of welcome pack, but received no response. We did empty the indoor bins and leave the wheelie bins out for collection two nights before we were due to leave, but there were no replacement bin bags, just another niggly small point.

This house has a lovely feel, it has been a very loved home. Lovely large garden, dinning room with a sliding door into the garden. Lovely large bedrooms. The shower is roomy and effective. The location is good, Cowes shopping is less than 5 minutes in the car, probably 15 minutes walking. As soon as we walked in, we felt the house wrapped its arms around us.We would however have liked the following:A welcome pack, and book for comments to the owner/cleanerThe oven to have been cleaned before we got thereInstructions on how to work the heating system - the electric fire in the lounge was effectiveA BBQ which was not full of water and rusty - not fit to useThe garden needed attention An up to date calendar on the bin day and which bin to put out, on what day - we looked this up on IOW Cowes bin daysEmpty bins would have been nice, they were both full (we took our bottles to a bottle bank during our stay)The fridge door needed watching, as it needed pushing in at the topWe would go back to this house, but only if the owner took notice of the above.
