Guests that stayed at this property said

Guests consistently commend the cottage for its immaculate condition and spotless presentation. The high standard of cleanliness contributes significantly to the overall positive experience.

The cottage's location is frequently highlighted as ideal, being quiet yet within easy walking distance to Dartmouth's centre. The steep access and steps are mentioned, which may not suit everyone, but the location is generally seen as a positive aspect.

The cottage is described as cosy and comfortable, with a well-furnished interior. Some guests mention the beds being soft or the mattresses needing replacement, which slightly affects the comfort score.

Facilities are well-regarded, with the cottage being well-equipped and maintained. A few minor maintenance issues are noted, such as the wood burner needing attention, but these do not detract significantly from the overall experience.

Guests occasionally mention thoughtful touches like a welcome card and bubbly, which are appreciated. However, as these gifts are not consistently referenced and are not guaranteed for every stay, the score reflects this variability.

About this property

Armada Cottage is a traditional 19th century terraced town cottage, just a short stroll away from the heart of Dartmouth, with its boutique shops, art galleries, restaurants and waterfront. The accommodation has been refurbished in recent years whilst retaining much of its original character, including exposed stone fireplaces.

The property is reached via a flight of steps from Southford Road. Enter through the front door and find yourself in an open-plan living space, with kitchen, dining and seating areas, boasting a neutral décor mixed with period features and subtle nods to the seaside location. The comfortable living space features two sofas and a woodburning stove, perfect for cosying up on cooler evenings, with a set of double doors leading to a spacious patio area furnished with a table, chairs and a garden bench, ideal for enjoying al fresco dining in the summer sun.

At the rear of the living area is a dining table seating five guests.

Upstairs you will find two well presented bedrooms; a master bedroom with a King-size bed and a twin bedroom.

On the ground floor is a shower room with a large walk-in shower, whilst on the first floor is a family bathroom.

With a number of attractions within walking distance, such as Dartmouth Castle and museums, this is a great location for a couple or family. Take a boat up the River Dart to the quirky town of Totnes or village of Dittisham, or ride the Dart Valley Steam Railway from across the estuary at Kingswear. Alternatively, visit the stunning Start Bay coastline, just a short drive away, including the Blue Flag awarded Blackpool Sands beach.

Armada Cottage makes a great base for couples and families wanting to enjoy Dartmouth and the South Hams.

Dartmouth lies on the banks of the beautiful River Dart in the popular and picturesque South Hams area of South Devon. Located within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and close to the stunning Start Bay coastline, Dartmouth is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Devon. It offers a stunning waterfront, ancient narrow streets lined with boutique shops, restaurants and art galleries plus many popular events such as the annual Dart Music Festival, Dartmouth Food Festival and the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta. This historic town boasts interesting landmarks, such as Dartmouth Castle, the Britannia Royal Naval College, and the National Trust’s Greenway House just a short ferry ride away. There are many interesting cycling and walking routes around Dartmouth, including the South West Coast Path, the Dart Valley Trail and plenty of quiet country lanes. A trip on the Dartmouth Steam Railway through the rolling countryside to Paignton is a must, and so is a boat or ferry trip across to Kingswear, on to Brixham, or down the river to the village of Dittisham. We highly recommend it. Be aware though that there are steep steps to climb from the street to get to it's front door. We are aged around sixty and manage fine but others may not. We have stayed here about half a dozen times over the last twelve years and look forward to are next stay. One criticism: when we arrived, the patio furniture had not been cleaned of birdpoo. Five of the six chairs and the table had to be cleaned by us. This had never happened before and I hope never happens again ~ it really is not good enough.

Car park permit a very welcome addition. House comfy. Everything we needed as we do eat at home sometimes. The kitchen well appointed and all utensils necessary. The bathroom and shower room all good. The beds clean and comfy. What more is there to say? Oh well let’s mention the weather!!! Not one drop of rain in a whole week. Thank you Armada Cottage.
