Guests say

The Old Dairy in Shropshire is a well-received holiday cottage, praised for its comfort, welcoming touches such as homemade cake, and a play barn that delights children. Its peaceful location is ideal for exploring Shrewsbury and the surrounding countryside. Guests appreciate the friendly owners and the cosy atmosphere created by thoughtful amenities like fresh flowers and a log burner.

Guests consistently note the property's cleanliness, with several reviews highlighting the spotless condition upon arrival. The fresh smell and well-maintained spaces contribute to the high rating.

The location is frequently described as peaceful and perfect for exploring nearby Shrewsbury and Church Stretton. However, some guests mention agricultural traffic and the closure of nearby amenities, which slightly affects the score.

Many reviews mention the comfortable beds and cosy atmosphere, with the log burner adding to the comfort level. One review cited a small en suite, but overall, the sentiment is very positive.

Facilities like the play barn are a hit, especially with families. Some guests felt misled by the 4-star rating due to certain amenities not meeting their expectations, such as the size of the wardrobe and water heater capacity.

The owners' thoughtfulness is frequently mentioned, with gestures like leaving homemade cake, fresh flowers, and a pint of milk. While these gifts are warmly received, they are not guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

Church Stretton 7 miles.

A lovely ground floor barn conversion on a working farm, wonderfully sited in 200 acres of the owner's land, just opposite the medieval church in the pretty rural village of Stapleton. This semi-detached property still retains a wealth of features from its original use as a dairy house, such as exposed beams and an original cattle stall, which now separates the dining area from the cosy sitting area. Furnished to a high standard, the property boasts stone flagged flooring and makes an ideal romantic retreat. The amenities of Church Stretton and Shrewsbury are within easy reach, as are the rest of Shropshire's attractions and superb walking country. A lovely base at any time of year.

Church Stretton's glorious setting in a narrow valley earned it the name 'Little Switzerland' from the Victorians who tried to establish it as a spa. It has some of the most dramatic and spectacular hills in the British Isles; Long Mynd guards the West and the escarpment of Wenlock Edge lies to the East. Caer Caradoc, formed by volcanic ash and lava over 560 million years ago, once had an Iron Age hill-fort on its summit. The geology of the area is intriguing and has earned the hills acclaim as a Site of Special Scientific Interest as well as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Ragleth Hill allows you to take in stunning 360 degree views, taking in the Long Mynd, Caer Caradoc, the Lawley, Wenlock Edge and the Clee Hills. Church Stretton also draws visitors for its famous 18-hole golf course, which claims to be the highest in England.

Comfy beds, log fire, good food nearby, great company. What more could you ask for.

It was lovely and cosy. All on one level which we like. The only thing we didn't realise is that you have to provide your own Towels. This is not mentioned on Sykes website. Jeanette kindly let us borrow some.

The cottage is extremely clean, and well maintained. It's very much become a little retreat from city life in the south. The children love coming back and seeing the farm animals. It's in an ideal location to explore Shropshire
