Enjoyed a lovely few days at Tancred Cottage. The love that the owners have poured into the renovation is evident throughout with the gorgeous handcrafted “butterfly” woodwork. The cottage has a cosy & comfortable feel with high quality furnishings and appliances. Located down a quiet track with countryside views yet conveniently only a short drive to the main road linking York & Harrogate & the A1. Cottage is ideal for anyone looking to visit North Yorkshire whether a family, some friends or like us a Dad & Daughter pair. Owners available to help if needed. If you are driving an Electric Car you will need the “Tap App” on your phone to use charger. There is a QR code in the Welcome book you need to scan to connect to their charger & your charging cable as it’s untethered. We used the “pay as you go” option. *On arrival the gates were shut & electric but there is a button you can press to open them and the key in the lock box is for the Back Door, please make guests aware* Thank you.

The quality of the house was really impressive. Oak everywhere (the very helpful owners have an oak furniture making business). The garden and outside areas would be excellent in good weather. For the 3 of us (and dogs) the space was good , for 6 it would be a bit tight. There are just two 3 seater settees in the lounge and access to the excellent 2nd bathroom is downstairs through the lounge and kitchen. The kitchen would probably benefit from a much larger fridge, larder space for food and a microwave.The location would suit those using the house as a base to to tour Yorkshire by car. It is a mile from Whixley which can only be accessed on foot via an overgrown path. The local pub is closed on Mondays and Tuesday and doesn't accept dogs. There is a good farm shop and cafe next door and a small shop in the village.
