Standing next door to the manned level crossing of the single track York/Harrogate railway line, this semi-detached, former station house has been sympathetically converted retaining many of its original features, including the fireplaces and the stunning sweeping staircase with its wrought iron balustrade. Situated in the village of Upper Poppleton, which is one of York’s most sought after neighbourhoods, visitors can expect a peaceful and luxury holiday experience.
The Station House has been furnished to a very high standard and has two double bedrooms and a twin bedroom (zip and link). All have been tastefully decorated, with the ground floor room benefiting from en-suite facilities. The kitchen/dining room is large and very well equipped with a modern feel. The large house bathroom features a bath and separate shower cubicle, and there are complimentary toiletries available. Outside there is small enclosed courtyard with garden furniture. Parking is at the front of the property with space for one car, and there is additional on road parking available.
Upper Poppleton offers great local amenities including shops and a selection of pubs serving delicious food. Both Upper and Nether Poppleton have a number of butchers, cafés, hairdressers, a tennis court and community centre. The Station House is ideally located to explore York, 3 miles away, and its historic city walls, with the railway station next door, the Park and Ride only a 1-minute drive away and a local bus stop just down the road. Just a 5-minute train journey away, the medieval winding streets play host to cafés, bars and restaurants, and the shopping is some of the best in the country. The country houses of Castle Howard, Nunnington Hall, Beningbrough Hall and Ripley Castle are only a short drive away, as is Harrogate and Yorkshire’s ‘Food Capital’, Malton. The coastal resorts of Scarborough and Whitby are also accessible. A fishing lake and golf can also be found nearby. Shop and pub 300 yards, restaurant ½ mile.

We stayed at Station House in July to be near family who live locally. The house is really lovely and comfortable and very spacious, and we briefly met the owners who were very nice and helpful. A great location for getting out and about in Yorkshire. Easy for trips to York, Fountains Abbey, Whitby, Filey, Beningborough Hall, Nunnington Hall, Goathland, Harrogate, etc. The only downside to this property is that the trains run from about 6.45am until 11pm each day, with the gates, announcements and trains sounding quite loud inside the house. This is obviously to be expected given the location of the house, but it did wake our children up frequently. Beautifully decorated and furnished throughout, a lot of thought has gone into this lovely house and the owners should be proud of it.

Lovely spacious property for 6 adults, could not be more convenient for taking the train into York,so no need to cope with car hassles.

Not surprisingly this property is very convenient for the station. We used the train most days. We really enjoyed watching the trains passing. If the train doesn’t suit the park and ride into York is at the end of the road. We liked the accommodation so much we have booked the carriage house next door for later this year. There is a village shop a short walk away. If you need more there’s many shops available on the York ring road. There’s even a cinema 10-15mins away for wet days.
