If you have green fingers, take some inspiration from the local gardens to visit, which include Threave Garden & Nature Reserve (21.5 miles), where various garden ‘rooms’ showcase different planting schemes. In the historic market town of Dumfries, 13.5 miles, you can visit the house where Robert Burns wrote some of his best-known poems and explore the wide variety of shops and places to eat.
