  The location and amenities were perfect however the cottage was not.Overall cleanliness was poor and everywhere needs a thorough clean. The shower has mouldy grout all over it and the shower fittings are full of mould. The kitchen cupboard smells of damp as do the bathroom and under the stairs one.The kitchen cupboards have been painted on the outside but unfinished and messy on the inside. Overall the workmanship and attention to detail is poor . The cupboard where the fridge is has a gap on the floor which is dirty and peeling paint above. It doesn't feel a hygienic place to have the fridge. The settee had stains on it and the navy cushions as well. The owner has set high standards for dog owners but respectful dog owners have high standards to. The owner sorted the shower problem ( which was us not using it properly) and Alan dealt with it promptly which was good.This is an honest review and if the owner deals with these issues it could be lovely place because Aberdovey is beautiful. Oh the information folder needs replacing its shoddy and again doesn't look professional....just saying.

  The cottage is lovely just not ideal for us. The stairs are very steep and narrow especially the bottom 3 stairs, we struggled getting up and down them. We couldn't take our luggage case up. We had to unload some of our clothes out of it first. The sofa was too low for my husband. He had to sit on one of the chairs which wasn't very comfortable for him. There isn't much leg room by the toilet, too close to the wall, plus the toilet flush handle was broken. I only went up onto the decking, once, due to the steps leading up to it been very steep and narrow, although, the views up there are amazing. It's not very dog friendly. My dog is 10 years old and couldn't get up the steps. The bed in the main bedroom could benefit from having a mattress topper due to been too low and not very comfortable and I had to bend down to plug my hairdryer in as the plug socket is underneath the bed (not ideal). The cottage is ok for young families just not for people of mature age, like ourselves. Also we would prefer a washing machine to a dishwasher but that's just our personal preference. The location, however, is perfect just been round the corner from the beach and the pub and only about half an hours walk into the village.

  This property is on the market for sale, as are three others in the row.The first thing you notice on walking through the door is the smell. A combination of some sickly sweet cleansing agent mixed with dank.The dank smell is pronounced when you open the high kitchen cupboard nearest the window and the understairs cupboard which houses the fridge. In the lounge area, the TV is mounted on the wall (not shown in pictures). The very low settee is positioned at right angles to this so a stiff neck if you watch it.There was no mention of using a fold up table and fold up chairs (which are too low) to eat in the original documentation. Also the pictures show a rear terrace which appears to be outside the rear door. Not the case, the terrace is as high as the slates on the roof and is accessed by some rather dangerous (in our opinion) concrete steps. The terrace is also shared with the property next door (also up for sale) and again, conveniently not mentioned. There is no garden, despite this being mentioned in the description. We would not let our small dog out at the rear as were were afraid she might injure herself falling through the large gaps in the 'safety' rail.In the kitchen, the fridge is much too small. We don't bring a lot of stuff, but we couldn't fit it all in it. The owners had put a sign on the fridge asking that the freezer compartment door be kept closed. Difficult when the catch was broken. Don't replace the catch, replace the ridiculously small fridge.Kitchen reasonably equipped, but only one small bread board and no chopping boards at all. We used the oven just once. It cannot have been cleaned recently as when it got hot and you opened the oven door, loads of smoke, presumably caused by residual fat stank the place out and set off the smoke alarm.One bright spot was the shower, this was excellent, powerful and warm, but overall cleanliness of the bathroom and other parts of house could have been a lot better. The entrance to the bathroom area is low and you don't have to be very tall to bang your head. This was unmarked and again, not mentioned in the description.The stairs to the bedrooms are steep, but there aren't many, but a rail at the top part would be useful. The main bed was neither comfortable nor uncomfortable, somewhere in between. It has a rather used, sprung mattress. For our clothes, there was sufficient drawers and wardrobe space.The general location is good, being about 100 yds from Penhelig Station, and Aberdovey is a shortish walk, but be aware that part of the route involves a busy main road with no footpaths.Despite accepting dogs, Driftwood is definitely not dog friendly. Strangely, the owner is of the opinion upon reading their information book, that they are doing dog owners a favour. They seem to think that they are one of the few places remaining letting dogs stay. In our experience of many years renting properties with our dog, this is definitely not the case. we have more choice than ever today.Overall, we would not return and feel a little mugged by what the owner failed to mention in their description. Had they been honest, we would not have booked the place.
